What kind of paint do I use for >>>

What type of paint do I use for repainting all of my black trim like around the rear hatch and the windshield wipers? Was it originally flat or gloss or what? I need to make sure it looks 100% original. Does anyone here recommend a specific type of brand?

Thanks.

I am almost 99% postive that it was a flat black color. I recently paintd the metal strip that runs around the edge of my hatch glass. The way I did it was to sand down the strip, seeing as I had some rust on there. Then I used one of those foam brushes and simply painted the strip. I just took my time and went very slow so that I didn't drip paint onto any other areas. The foam bruch also left NO brush strokes or streakes.

I think the wiper arms are also flat black as well.....but again I am not positive.

Let me know how it turns out, I need to redo the rear hatch and the trim on the TTops also.

My opinion, GM didn't use a flat black anywhere on any car. A satin black or semi-gloss black is probably much closer to accurate. It shouldn't be flat and it shouldn't be extremely glossy, it needs to be somewhere in between.

Semi-gloss then huh? Maybe I'll do that. Now that you mention it it does make more sense that just flat black, I never thought of semi-gloss...........

GM generally used a 30-40% gloss, which is most closely matched in rattle cans by Krylon's semi-flat black. I think SEM also makes this color, and because it is a professional product, it should have a higher solids content, and therefore last longer.

Check yer local paint stores there is a color called GM Trim paint. When I repainted my t-tops I picked up a can at pep boys. It looked exactly like what came from GM

Well I went to autozone and they had those small spray cans of the Dupli-Color brand paint and one of them was called "DS GM 381 Black MC" and it says its ideal on trim and is a perfect factory match. The color of the cap kinda looks like it has a little tiny bit of silver/gold flecks now that I look at it though, I think I got the wrong stuff The only choice they had was a GM flat black trim paint.......

DAMN!!!!!!! It was the wrong one I think, I just sprayed it and it had little metal flakes in it

I think I'll just buy a regular old semi-gloss.....
