So Hello everyone! Here's my story, I'm a semi retired steel worker, plant closed and was forced into early retirement, work as a delivery driver for a machine shop now. So about a year into my steel working career I wanted an IROC and found a nice one year old 1990, did all the paper work, traded my car in, dealership told me I'd have no trouble financing it and to go ahead and take it for the weekend, so hell yeah I'm 21 cruisin an IROC! Well Monday rolls around and dealership calls me and says I need a co-signer! Oh crap, so I ask my Dad even though he already said no, I figured maybe since I already had the car he may change his mind, WRONG! He told me this is something you have to work up to, well the car went back and I drove home in my old car. In 1995 I finally got to that point and bought a brand new 1995 Z28, LT1 6spd, White with charcoal leather, I liked the car and it was a screamer but I don't know the 4th gen Camaros never really grabbed me like the 3rd gens, ended up getting married to my first wife and car was traded for something more practical. I have liked the the 3rd gen Maros and Birds since I was 12 years old, I used to go to the dealerships and just sit in them and dream. Fast forward to March of this year, this pops up on Craigslist about an hour from me, finally have some play money, go to look at it on a Sunday, put holding money down on it, wait five extremely long days til I pick it up, Friday comes and I buy myself a 31 year late graduation present for myself, have been smiling ear to ear ever since. I take no credit for the mods and work done to this car, previous owner deserves all the credit for that, I just keeping it looking as nice as possible. I do have some plans for it, subframe connectors, etc, better audio, leather seating, and who knows what else. Here's one of my favorites from today. I will have some more in an album later this evening, Thanks for nomination, that is a win for me in my book, Good luck to everyone!
Hey everybody I thought I would tell the story of my Camaro. My mother bought the car brand new in 1984 from Laffin Chevrolet in South River NJ. It was originally a sport coupe with the 2.8 and F41 package and 5 peed trans. She drove it until around 1989 when she gave it to me. My father and I spent 4 months painting the car. Boy that was a lot of work, I drove it until around 1991 and bought a truck. The car sat in the garage covered until 2017 when I finally decided to have it stripped down and painted at a good friend of mines shop. The body was almost perfect with no rust what so ever. Now as the car sits today I have replaced everything but the brake booster and master cylinder. It did have a 377 SBC in it until I hade some problems with it and decided to go with a 406 which was just a week ago, I was able to re-use all my parts from the 377 except for the block and heads obviously. The car also has a Tremec 5 speed trans., Strange 12 bolt rear with 4.56 gears and 1LE brakes, I guess you can technically say it is a 1 owner car, So anyway that's the story of my Camaro now I just have to get my mother to drive it again.
Purchased this car from a member on here in ‘17. It was a nice starting point, a low mile, hard top, L98 GTA. It had the typical issues most of us have grown accustomed to expecting with age. Over the time I have owned it the goal has to slowly restore and improve upon on it while still trying not to deviate to far from the factory aesthetics. It’s been a fun project in the time I have owned it. What I enjoy most is showing people there are people who care about these cars and are willing to represent them similar to when they were newer. As I remember them from when I was younger.
Wow, some great cars here guys! Here's my story. I'll upload some photos from my ipad next. To me, my Formula is symbolic of a new life, a new beginning. Had fallen on hard times and moved to Houston to start a new a new job and a new life. In 1992 I had enough money to buy a car. I wasn’t looking, but then I saw a Maui Blue Formula for sale and was hooked. Also purchased a Toyota Corolla with 500,000 miles on it so I wouldn’t have to use the Formula as a daily driver. By 1994 I was traveling so much, barely had time to drive it, and then in 1998 was sent overseas on work assignment. Ultimately, my entire house and the Formula went into storage (again). Thinking I’d be back in a year, I finally retrieved it from storage in 2016 and brought it back to life. People thought I was crazy for storing it for as long as I did, but they didn’t understand the symbolism of the car, or how cool Third Gens are!
My goal is to maintain factory originality or install SLP parts that could have been dealer ordered. I want it to remain, vintage 1990. Since it was more or less put away in 2004, not much had changed from what the factory put on it - had a great template to work with. Just about everything on the car is from the factory, just spent time A LOT of time cleaning 65,000 miles and 30 years of dirt. Did tear down the motor for new valve seals and put on a few SLP parts in the process. Thanks to everyone at thirdgen.org that answered all my tedious questions in the process! The alternator and a/c compressor are new, but the old ones worked. Just wanted to preserve them and get them rebuilt properly. All the body seals are still factory and so is the paint. Even the factory hood shocks and headlights are still working! Got lots of plans for her, but she’s reliable and the wife and I can take it out for a spin anytime we want. Thirty years later, same car, same girl. Awesome!
A couple pics of the interior. I recovered all the seats by myself. Not very good pics but I don't have that many. All of the interior I made look all stock except for the tachometer. I would like to put all Autometer gauges in the dash in the future. Interior is still not how I want it but I'll get there eventually.
We always say "this is a hard month to decide which one.." Well..this month actually is hard to decide. Some very nice cars on display here no doubt all deserving of COTM.
