Restoring IROC wheels

I know, there are a million post on this, however they all pertain to "polishing" the wheels. I am looking to maintain the factory look. The clear coat is pretty bad. Other than that the wheels are in incredible shape. (Bought from original owner.) Any instructions on how to get these looking new w/o paying 100 ducketts apiece ?
The wheels are off an 85 and they have the grey inserts.

What I did was clean them with rubbing alcohol. The I just taped up the center light gray spoke parts and spray painted the rest with the closest to factory color I could get. I also had my brother make some brake dust covers out of sheet metal and painted them black. Keeps the wheels a lot cleaner a lot longer.

Strip the clearcoat off, buff them out slightly with a wheel (on the non colored areas anyway, and have them powdercoated in the correct color and clear. If you want the original look, just be careful not to remove the machining grooves when you polish. I don't know how you would be able to replace them.

Well the feedback is min, so let me stir it.
Since my wheels are in good shape I plan to remove the clear coat (masking painted areas) and just CLEAN the wheel for another application of new clear. Any ideas on this procedure ???
I assume clear coating the wheel again is easy ???

Bueller?????

If you are going to use paint, then you want something real durable, like epoxy, otherwise the clearcoat will be damaged or destroyed in no time.

Look in the phonebook, they have their own listing, and will be in there if there are any in your area (there are 23 listed here in the Portland area). It is much more durable than paint.

that would work fine too, but on my crosslace wheels, where the clearcoat was cracked, their was some corrosion, and I could either sand it off, or deal with it. I'm guessing alot of us have something like that, that's why everyone polishes them. to be honest, it gives me a great sense of pride to know that I stripped, sanded, polished, and repainted my wheels.
