Tint...did they do my car right??
Tint...did they do my car right??
So far it looks pretty bad, and thats reason enough to take it back. But before I do, I have a question for those of you that have the hatches with defrost built in. When they put my tint on, they left un-tinted areas around the defroster, and only the side closest to outer area of the hatch. The excuse they gave me was that "It accumulates dirt... errr... its a pain in the ***" un-fortunetly there boss wasn't there. Should the defroster be a big deal? And does anyone have pics of there tinted Hatch? I think this guy is BS'ing me all over the place.... payed $135 for Lummar 15% tint on the side windows and back hatch, and it looks like **** on all but the passenger side window, so its going back anyhow, but I need to know if I can bitch at them for not doing that area around the hatch.
ThanX!

If the tinter knows what he's doing....then he should be able to cover all the glass on the hatch without a problem. However...to find someone who knows what he's doing is a PITA. The only shop around here that does tinting does camaro back windows in like 6 or 7 strips.....VERY unprofessional, especially since he doesn't even line up the tint seams with the defroster lines. Looks like total ***. It may take alot of searching but find someone who can do that back hatch in 1 or 2 pieces and knows how to heat shrink. If they get the glass good and clean, then the small strip between the defroster side lines and the edge of the hatch shouldn't be a problem. This site has some good info: www.tintdude.com

Sheesh... my wife's old mini-van had rear defroster and was tinted on top of the grid lines before we bought it (new). We had that vehicle for 8 years and NEVER had any problem with the tint on top of the defroster grid. I'd say that shop/installer doesn't know what they're doing...

I was just looking at my window, it's the same way. It's 1 piece, but it stops at the edge of the defroster along the side of the window. (it was like that when I bought it) There is a braided wire that is soldered to the window that makes the edges of my defroster. It's pretty thick, not like the lines themselves I'm not really sure that tint would go over the braids smoothly.
mine is like that as well ( with the side strips not tinted).....
you can't tint that part and have it last properly....the area is too small for contact.
you also can't tint over the metal strip because it would leave an obvious gap for air and debris to mess up the window.
you best bet if you want it perfect is to install a glass that is without the heater element......or to airbrush or paint that part of the window.

When I had my window tinted-they went right over the grids--never had a problem-but-you saw little areas that were over the grid(tint)that had very slight bubbles in it--shouldn't even call it bubbles--I grabbed some very thin black pin stripe and traced over the lines(it was more then 1 piece too)w/the striping--came out great and it didn't look ghetto! From a few feet away you couldn't even see the pinstriping on the glass--and it wasn't annoying from inside the car!!
They tinted mine the same way, with the sides left undone, they also didnt tint the very top of my window where the black pinstrips get real close together. The guy said that if he tinted that area it would end up falling off. Has this happened to anyone?

I got black out tint on the back as well. But it covers the whole defrost grids. It doesn't cover the entire hatch, on the sides there is a small gap. But I turned my defrost on one time and it burnt the tint, so I never used it since.
I dont have defroster but my tint does cover to all the edges, including to the top where the black stripes start. No problems with that yet. My cousin has defroster and the did one peice edge to edge, top to bottom. No problems with anything. If you hate the job the did i would take it back and make them do it the way you want it done. otherwise get your money back and go somewere else. Just a bit of adivce to anyone getting you back window tinted, always ask if the do one peice before you bring it in. So you can decide if you want them to do it or someone else.
