Has anyone done this? I was thinking about having it done or just seeing if they can be purchased. Sites and/or pics welcome. Thanks, Jeff

"Hydrogen Embrittlement" is the reason most will warn against chrome plating suspension components. A side-effect of the plating process, actually makes the steel weaker.
If it's strictly a show vehicle, fine, but I wouldn't want to weaken any suspension parts on my car, in the name of appearance.
Found out about this years ago when it was all the rage to chrome-plate A-arms.

Well, I figured I'd ask the question because I've got all the stuff for my suspension upgrade and figured I'd get them done while I was doing the work.
I don't do any SCCA racing but do take it to the strip on the weekends every now and then, and a couple of car shows in the summer.
Rich-The "Hydrogen Embrittlement" is not what I was hoping to hear, but it makes sense. I was going for the looks but don't wanna deal with a possible problem later.
Karps-the stuff looks great!
Kandied-do you have and pics of the completed project? If you do shoot em' to me email when you get a chance. I polished the plenum and runners and didn't feel like going thru the process again that's why I was leaning toward chrome plating. What'd you do about the plastic tops?

Thanks again, Jeff

Thanks Ken! I had mine done 7 or 8 years ago and haven't had any problems at all. Just one thing to keep in mind is that there is a bearing in the strut tower. You need a plater to be aware of that and doesn't use real high heat in the process. Mine is used now primarily just for shows, but it does get driven and like I said I haven't had any problems with the towers.

sorry i couldn't get on the site for a while, i left the plastic tops black i felt it looked better since chrome and polished is a bit different........though you could opt to get them vaccum plated......it isn't that much.

here is a pic that will give you a general idea.

i don't have a good camera, but here's a pic from a distance to give you another idea. it's an older pic, which the light isn't to flattering on the braces......but, with respect to chrome, the braces are a pain when dealing with the bearing and to replace a brace if needed is a hell of alot of money. much easier the way i did it, i polished it to a high luster just like you would with anything else and then clearcoated it as to make sure it wouldn't tarnish or oxidize.

thanks hotz, i had someone custom make it for me, aproximately 80 in parts and 100 for the coating. it's 4" tubing straight through. works really well, i've had to come up with another design though with my future mods so i plan on selling it soon to the first person with $100.

it definately gets attention thats for sure.
