chromallusion paint
dang what color was yours and also do you have pics with it on your car? my car was the same color(absolute purplene) before it got totalled 2 months ago and i am just now getting it fixed. (front end was gone) the paint alone is 350 a pint and of course i need around 4 pints. i have a 92 fb .. i was going to go with a different chroma color but i am kind scared, i like the purplene except for the pollen looking color in it. do you know of any chroma without the yellow?
thanks for responding

almost went through with it........last minute i bailed out; i didn't think one color was as pretty as a good candy red.
one things for sure though, when it comes to accidents it's the best color in the world to have on a car. i kinda wish i would have went with it; would have saved me half the price my candy paint cost me.
o'well, it's definately a cool color but it looses it's appeal after a while and when it comes to show cars it's become rather common.

kinda expensive for the pint isn't it? here it's 250 over the counter and if you know someone in the industry you can pick it up for about 100. not to ruin your day, just to give you some info in case you didn't know what it should cost.
alright, here's some better pics.....even though they are of a mustang.

enough of the mustangs........
i found a f-body.
now this i believe is the ppg, although i could be wrong. the ppg is a nicer color by far; much richer and about twice as expensive.

alright the very last one and for all us thirdgens....
i know i have one other 3rdgen car with this color but i can't find it.
this car is a 91 that was featured on popular hotrodding television.
like i said the color is eye catching, but you can see that it is also dull even when it's new.

I've got a few pics of an 86 Trans Am from Carlisle that had that paint. He had great taste. All of his underhood accessories were yellow.
There is a guy near me I know with a 87 IROC with that paint, but its a little bit lighter than what you normally see... looks good but I whenever I see it I never have my camera with me....

hey that 3rd gen is the one from popular hot rodding mag., it was also on there tv show. its got a twin paxton supercharged 383 and i tink its rated at like sum 700hp. it also has ps2 and like 4 10in subs and orion amp and stuff. but on the show when they had it out on the street when the owner let off the trottle the sound from the superchargers was awsome, it sounded better then when a waste gate would open on a turbo car.
we checked around here and 350 a pint was the cheapest, but i sure wished we would have checked other places. now this is dupont that we want to stay with. i only have totaled pics of it and thats depressing, but i pick it up next sat. from the paint shop so i will put new pics then.. chroma paint is very hard to photograph though, but it does look verys sharp.. thanks for responding and wished i would've checked where your from before i bought my paint..
my car wasnt dull looking, but we did have a very good clear coat on it. thanks for all the pics, but i still wished i knew a color that would take the pollen look out of it, that might be what you say is dull looking. there has to be a chroma with the same colors minus the pollen (yellow)

I think the retail price is pretty well controlled (for the Dupont at least). Around here it's 350.00 a pint and about 600.00 a quart. It would take about a quart for most cars, some a bit more.
It is a tri-coat process with a black base coat, then the chroma, then clear coat.

another thing the paint shop said i or to use it over grey instead of black this time you think the end results would be the same? i think they said grey or maybe they said a blue bare with me i'm a woman and use to be interested in clothes not cars so i am learning..

I guess in theory you could use it over any color but over gray or blue will add a different effect or hue than over black. My understanding is the illusion paint is a translucent so whatever basecoat you have will effect if differently.
Every brand and part # of paint has a specification sheet that can be printed out for you. I would ask for a copy of it. It has all the technical specs like air pressure, flash time, recommended base and clear coats. That way there is no question. At 600 bucks a quart I wouldn't want to make a mistake, not counting the cost of the base and clear.

i've seen some here also that dont look good. paint shop said lots of time when there isnt enough paint then it doesnt look good. but to each is own. when i get mine out i will post the pic.. i like it of course or i wouldnt have went back with the same color.
im sure i will get a lot of neg feedback but can't please everyone..

the pics i have of the mustang were posted on a site, i've never actually seen the car; i don't think it's the same as autorama, the car at autorama was more of a cutom mix and didn't changer nearly as many colors as purpelene.
no you can't please everyone and it's not the point......you should paint your car to your desire and not worry if others don't like it.
i do feel bad about the price issue though. when it comes to paint an body work you really have to do your homework, dupont is the chepest of the colorchaging paints and should not cost that much.......it's not the end of the world. but, knowing what others pay and then seeing that some of you would be paying twice as much kinda aggrivates me.
your basecoat is a huge consideration as to the final outcome. black is the best color as it reflects zero color......this allows for the crystal's in the chromeillusion to take full effect. just like diamonds on black velvet.
just a slight shade off in the basecoat and your car won't match, the beauty is that it's very simple to paint; but you have to know all your mixtures and have them perfect. unlike a metallic, candy, or pearl. if you reck the car when you go to repaint it you don't have to worry about blends and the like as the color shifts which is awsome for repaint factor.
as far as the dullness.........all the clearcoat in the world won't get rid of it, i forget the term exactly but it's because of the particles in the paint. there is no way you can get that type of paint to shine as much as a nice metallic, kandy, or pearl. another main reason i went without it....that and i didn't like how it looks pink at times.
as far as the color your looking to remove, there is less in ppg's paint, that paint sells for upwards of 5-600. much nicer colorchange, but you pay for it. also, steve saleen has his own colorchanging paint that blows both out of the water, but it is impossible to get unless you have a car painted by him for 12,000 extra or a personal friend.
either way, post some pics when it gets out.......i'd love to see it.

I was coming up a road the other day (on my bike lol) and a thirdgen camaro passed by with chromeillusion paint. Its was an 88-89 i'd say, and looked awesome. When i say it coming it was blue and as it passed by it turned purple green gold and blue again. I turned around to follow him to where he lives(i live in a small city) but alas my pedal power was no match for the V8

I painted kameleon flames on my IROC this spring. Used duPont's chromallusion paint. Heres some pics of the car after paint. I did the flames and the "IROC-Z" on the doors so it all matched. I did it all myself and taped it all myself to.
