Bad wreck in my '92

Yesterday, i was comming home from school when some lady in a church parking lot was pulling across the intersection completely into another road on the other side of the street, she didn't look both ways before she went and i hit her R Rear and damaged my RS pretty bad.

It'll need all new headlights, new nose, 2 new fenders, new grille, new radiator, new coolant tank, new hood, ALL new Paint, and maybe the wreck cracked the oil pan because there is still a big streak in the road that looks like oil. I kinda hope it is totaled so I have an excuse to buy an IROC or a Z, but on the other hand, i have put some money into the RS like a megashifter, coil, etc. what do you guys think about it being totaled or not...

With that amount of damage and no receipts for substantial investment it is going to be a total loss. I was in an accident a few weeks ago and the damage to my '91 RS is nearly the same except I don't need the radiator and drivers side fender and there is zero engine damage. The repair estimate on my car is just over $4800. The insurance comany initially totaled the car. However, it is in above average condition and I have receipts totalling over $10K. They used that to weight the cost of damage vs. the cost of replacement. Since the repairs will cost less than 80% of the replacement value of the car, they are now fixing it.

If I was in your position I'd accept the total loss and go buy a Z28. However, fight to get as much as you can for your car. It also might be worth buying it back to part it out. When the insurance company was going to total mine they said they'd sell it back to me for $514. You can certainly make more selling the parts.

Good Luck,
Matt

$4800 !! I would go to the bone yard and get some parts and do most the work myself.

I dont think it will be a loss at all.... The car may be a total loss, as in written off... And if it is, they will send an adjuster to look at yer car and than he will tell u whut he thinks its worth, and than u guys will agree on a price... If u dont have the receipts for the megashifter, etc, they will probably tell u to take them off and keep em... My last car was an 85 Sport Coupe V6.. I bought the car for 400 bucks... Got it painted for 500 bucks, put chrome tail pipes on it, and put in a clutch for 150.. They told me they thought my car was worth about 2800 - 3600.. I ended up getting 3400 for it and took a bunch of little interior accesories off and my spoiler.... I gained big time... Than went and bought the ROC! My buddy had a stock 1989 Sunbird and some girl rear ended him and wrote it off and he got 3000 for it.... He bought it for 800 cert and emmissions... Just fight with them, and keep bugging em, they will settle quicker and will give u a better deal... Also, cut out pictures of 92 Camaros or even earlier ones that are like 8000 dollars and show em... There is one on AutoTrader right now for 13000 and its stock...

I hear ya guys... I could buy mine back and part it out but i have no where to do it. My dad bought it for 4800, but i found one on a lot identical to it ( i mean same color and everything) for 5400 and i think the ajuster will have to give me that much because that is what it'll take to replace the car, i just got a hell of a deal on it.

I found a 94 or something formula 350 TPI on the same lot, what would i have to do to it to make it run with a 99 T/A... beating my friends 99 TA was one of my goals for my RS.
I kinda want a 92 Z-28 5.7 TPI more more than a formula w/ the same drivetrain.
