Has anyone else had this happen or does anyone know if I can get a new vin?

I think it should be in more than one spot, not sure where though.

Well if there is another one, and it's not on the floor pan, I'm 99% sure that it's gone too.

good luck getting a new vin plate. gm dealers won't supply them anymore and the special "rosette" rivets are illegal to sell or possess in many states.

best bet is to contact your local department of motor vehicles and find out about the procedure for obtaining a new state issued vin plate.

My VIN plate was rusted also. I just replaced my windshield and had the chance to sand the rust off and paint it. Now I can read the numbers.

Yeah, my VIN was always rusty; when my windshield was swapped, the guy who did the job actually cleaned up my VIN for me! Now it's fully readable... odd, how it hasn't rusted since. I wonder if he put some kind of coating on it.

The Title to the car is a good place to get a VIN # or your insurance card (if you have either)

I'm not sure if it's the same on all years but on my '87 Camaro there's a vin sticker in the spare tire "hole" as well as one on the hood itself. Hoods too can be replaced, I know.

I've got a 1988 camaro and it has vin numbers on the drivers door, inside of the hood, inside of each rear corner panel, the bumpers and i think on the fenders too. Also there is on on the inside of the center console door.

if you need a last resort...you can always search for a build sheet...dont those have VIN #'s on em? and on my 84Z they have that plate on the plastic fan protector in the engine compartment im pretty sure that's got my VIN on it too.

ive yet to find vin anywhere on either 84 i have except under shield and on door and on rad support plate, same with the 82, i cant read the 82 vin plate and the sticker on door is unreadable also, all is findable is the sequential unit number, the hood only says
6A 17 82
10014649
no VIN anywhere else on any of the three cars, ive been trying to find other locations.,

good luck

there could be a sticker in the door jam or if you have the title it will say your vin on it.

Humm I wanna say the last 8 of the vin (the ones that matter) are on the radiator support tag. I will go out and look at mine tomorrow and double check that.

The #'s are worn off the radiator support tag and I can't find the buildsheet. *** I hate this rust bucket.

How in the hell are they worn off??? That takes talent there. I double checked on my 83 and the last 6 of the vin are the last six numbers on the top line (upper right corner) from there it atleast gives you the importaint info. The rest of it you can figure out with little hassle. Scuff it up with a wire brush pour water on it and have a bright light it will show. My car is from Ma and has alot of rust. the wondow tag is still readable and the rad tag is also. The numbers I fought with were teh block #s I had to degrease wire brush and use the water with a bright light to grab the numbers. It turned out to be original motor so it was worth it
Try that method of grabbing em

It's just very, very rusty. It sat in a field (walking distance from the Gulf) uncovered with no hood for 7 years.
