Metal rusting away under battery

How do I take care of this guys ? I want to fix it before , it has to be welded . Although that might be to late ...I think part of it has a very small hole if Im not mistaken . I know the metal is getting pretty thin .I just remember last time I had the battery out and it didnt look good .Thanx

Mine has the same problem. I was just going to take sheet metal and rivit it on there. Shouldnt be too noticable.

You could also get a plastic tray at an auto parts place for a few bucks too. Might be worth it.

Try Por-15.

If you can weld. Get a welder out and weld some new metal in. Another idea.

Weld, then POR-15. Best of all worlds!

The bad news, if its to far gone a battery tray or Por 15 will not
help. The original metal tray is part of inner fender support. I know, its happened to me.

Yeah, the POR-15 will stop the rust, but, if the metal is weak enough that you can put your finger through, you might want to get it welded. A shop should probably only charge $10, it's so simple. Cut out the rusted metal yourself, that'll make the cost less for the weldor. I've put a few posts up on how to use POR-15 if you want to search for 'em. Hint: buy the $20 super starter kit!

i replaced my inner fenders and battery trays, i just cut everything out of a 91... i didnt replace the one on pass side cuz it was solid, but i have the batt tray for pass side laying around painted, but you can get one from classic indistries, you will have to drill out the spot welds on the old one...

The orginal battery tray is available from the dealer for under $20. The old one will have to have the spot welds drilled out and weld or rivit the new one in, looks very professional that way.

What about Corroless

Nobody seems to have mentioned Corroless from the Eastwood company.I have sprayed my interior, engine bay and underneath with this excellent product. Its used as a primer and works in a similar way to POR-15(also a very good product). Its a flatter finish than POR-15 and accepts most top coats(Ive personally sprayed the engine bay with 2-pack-mammoth job).Ive done some experiments with rusty metal covered with corroless and left them in the rain for months,no rust ever came back through.Just make sure you use adequate coats.
