What is this part called?
I am looking for the piece that goes underneath that helps push air up and thru the radiator on an 86 IROC. I thot it was called an air dam, but when I look for that I keep finding the ground effects type part that goes under the front bumper. While I am at it, what all vehicles could I get one off of? TIA
dose it push it through the radiator. Or is it for the air intake to the throttle body?

EDIT:
now that i think about ir, are you talking abou the round black platsic peice on the bottom of the car, that always scrapes the ground??

no, not that. mounts underneath the radiator and pushes air up thru the radiator. helps with cooling, as these IROCs do not have any grill opening to speak of.

Hmmm
Will it hurt if I take that damn thing off from under my car? it has grey overspray on it and it's all cracked up from the previous owner parking too close to curbs. Its a 1986 bird.

if you are refering to the air dam in the link below, you need it. Your car will overheat without it. If it is really damaged I would look at getting it replaced. I believe firebirds had another piece that mounted in front of that but I am not sure the use of it. I think I read that it was important. Not sure though.

You need that. The air deflector pushes air up into the radiator. If it's not there you will overheat. Mine is 3 peices, the edge peices were about $13 last I had to buy one from GM directly. Not sure how much the center would cost.

Alright, Thanks.
I guess I will park my car in the Garage, take it off, Glue it back together, and repaint it black.
Thanks,

Well, actually it's plastic, so some soap and water, and a little elbow grease should remove the paint overspray. You may have to get a green pad.
Careful when taking the little plastic clips out, as they were almost as expensive as the air deflector.
If it's messed up real bad, run down to a pick-a-part lot and see what they have. It probably won't glue very well, considering it has to withstand xx (or xxx) mph.

Here's the facts on that one. If you have a T/A you need the full air deflector( front spoiler reasons). If you have a base firebird, you only need the upper part of the deflector( the lower screws to it,many screws!!). That's on an 89 though not sure about other years. I removed it on my 89 Firebird because it just looks like s hit hangin so low without a front spoiler, no overheat problems so far
