Don't rape me for this...
I like doing different time consuming stuff.

I know it's not a direct bold in just wondering if anybody has done it.

Yeah, it's been done and it rules... Just a TON of work and mods required, especially the heater controls, I think... Also there's not enough room behind the dash, so your ECM will live in the glovebox; I actually think that'd be cool to open up and show someone your car's brain, and if your worried about theft or someone disabling your baby, you can always lock the glovebox, right?
Oh, and by the way, iroc2nv, I know a guy with a 1.3L rotary-powered RX7 that could probably whip your 5.7L camaro. It's pushin' 287 rear wheel horsepower (dyno proven) and will be pushing more like 330 soon (he just ordered an intercooler for the turbo). Yep, he tried and succeeded in convertin' me to an import-lover, but his $14,000 purchase price made me crawl back to my Trans Am... he's got over $25K in the dang thing by now, I believe!

how do the heater controls require a lot of work? why not just replace with a 4th gen heaterbox and then use the 4th gen controls ?

Yeah I really want to find out exactly what it takes to swap the dash and console of a 4th gen into a third gen if anyone has the info.
Chris87TA350: Yeah those rotary motor RX-7's are bad @ss my buddy has one that he just put a new intercooler and turbo on it is pushing upwards of 500hp. We call it The Fast and The Furious Car because it has the same body kit as the one in the movie.

4th gen heaterbox is larger and requires you to cut some of the firewall as well as other mods I am sure. Anything is possible, just a matter of how much time you are willing to put into it. I think the owner of the vert's name is Kristian from Norway I believe it was. I cant remember if he is running an LT1 though. BuickGSX got the dash in but hadnt been able to test the gauge. I am sure 4th gen gauge clusters have been talked about in the past.

Hey, David, aren't you the guy with the flamed Camaro that everyone envies? I live in GA, how come I haven't seen you at any shows around here? Am I goin' to the wrong ones? You should come to Tanger Outlet Mall on the south end of Atl and meet up with me and Redraif and TimRS etc. and show your car off. I'm still surprised I haven't seen you on the road!
Later,
Chris

wouldn't it just be easier to swap in aftermarket gauges like phantomtech or autometer and then mount them on a metal or plexi base in the oem gaugeplate area ? would it work ?

btw that reminds me - does ANYONE make a more accurate fuel level gauge than what came stock with out cars ?

Hey Chris87TA350, yeah I am the guy with the flamed Camaro. I do go to a lot of shows when I can get off work, but usually just the local ones. I will be at the NOPI Nats in Sept. (gotta kick the *****'s butts). I know where the Tanger outlet is, is that where ya'll hang out. If so I will have to ride up there sometime. If you are ever in the Columbus area let me know.

Yep, he is running an LT1. Here is a link to his site that shows some more pics, but nothing in detail: http://home.c2i.net/heggestad/camaro/Camaropage.html
A long time ago I was in contact with him, but he just stopped emailing me back? All of the gauges function corectly, and the a/c and heater work perfectly because he cut the hole in the firewall bigger to accept the 4th gen heaterbox. He said he had to make some special brackets to mount the door panels, and that he was going to send some pictures of them to me, but that was at least 2 years ago, and I havent seen anything yet
