Instaling power options. Where to get power from?
Instaling power options. Where to get power from?
I have an 85 T/A. I have the doors(power windows/locks/mirrors) and seats out of a 89 GTA. I also took what I needed of the harness to hook everything up along with the swithces. It seems that the seats and doors run off of the same power wire. I was wondering where I should hook up for power. How hard is it to put them in the fuse box? Any help would be appreciated. The seats are not full power if it matters. They have power bolsters and lumbar and thats it.
Thanks

Yuo can probably jsut run a 12-14 guage line from the battery. Then fuse it with a 20 amp fuse. That should do it....

If you took the complete power harness it should have connections for the power distribution block behind the driver's kick panel.
Well, I looked and on the harness I have a connector with 2 orange wires, and one pink. I believe it is what you are talking about but I dont see anywhere to plug it into on my car. Should it have a spot for that to plug to? If so, how do I find it? Oh, and KJ, I know I could do that, but I am trying to keep from rigging my car up and if I do have to rig it in some way, I dont want it to be able to be seen.

It sounds like those are the right ones. There is a power distribution block behind the driver's side kick panel. It is up high by the lower filler panel. There may be quite a few wires hiding it but it should be there.
Well, I found the distribution block under the drivers side kick panel. I also have a plug that appears to be my power wires. It doesnt fit though. The distribution block appears to take 2 wire connectors and the one I have is 4. On the couple of plugs that are in the distribution block the wires are all orange(one has 2 orange wires coming out of it and the other just has one). On the onnector that I have it has 1 empty spot then 2 orange wires coming out of one spot on the plug and then antother orange wire coming out of its own spot, then a pink wire coming out of its own spot. I traced the wires and the pink and one orange go to the part of the harness with the switches for the windows, and mirrors. One orange goes to the part of the harness that connects to my seats, and the other orange goes to some sort of relay. Does anyone know what these different colored wires are. I think that the orange is power but what about pink? Is there anywhere I could get a connector like what goes in the dist block? I was looking, and there are a couple of open fuses on my fuse block that say pwr acc. I was wondering if mabe the plug I have is supposed to plug into a fuse box. Does anyone know if it is, and if so would it fit the spot where I dont have a fuse? Also, if this plug is supposed to go in a distribution block, is there a difference in the plugs between 85 and 89?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I checked on a friends Iroc parts car and it went to that distribution block. I took the connectors that his used. The thing is that his used 2 smaller orange wires and a larger orange with black stripe. Mine used two larger with black stripe, and one smaller without black stripe. Are the ones with the black strip different than the ones without as far as what kind of power is applied? For the clips in the distribution block, there is 2 pins. Are the 2 sides different or are they the same? I know that there is a seperate row down the side for the pink wire connectors so I have that figured out. I am trying to get this done this weekend so I would appreciate any quick answers.

two columns on the distribution block behind the drivers kickpanel. one strip is constant live, the other is hot with the key in the "run" position, but not the start or accessory positions.
constant live strip should have orange and orange with black stripe wires plugged into it. switched strip should have pink wires plugged into it.
if your car had no power options from the factory, you may be missing the jumper wire that connects the fuseblock to the jumper block. in which case it's probably easiest just to connect directly the ignition switch harness.
here's a couple articles i wrote after adding power lock & windows to the thirdgen:

Here's an update. I think I figured it out. I went and looked at a friends Iroc parts car, and his had the stuff plugged into the distribuition block. I took the connectors I needed from his car to connect mine to my dist block. I think that my dist block should be hooked up because it had a couple of other clips in it. I hooked up the orange and orange/black into the 2 plug side, and the pink into the single plug side. I got the wires ran from side to side for the power doors. I also got the wiring harness for the seats and the controls for the windows and mirrors installed. I also am converting from a mechanical 85 mph speedo to a electric 140 and have got all the wires run for that. Now I just have to finnish putting the panels back on and the seats in. I am not going to install the power doors until I paint them. Thanks for the help. I will not have the car running for a while yet, and since the motor and hence starter are out I dont have power to even test the stuff I am putting in now though.

I will check and see if I can tell, but if there was stuff pluged into that block, it should have the power to it right? Also, I know it had orange wires already pluged into it, but if it didnt have pink would it not have a wire to make those plugs active?
Thanks
