Should my heater light up?
My heater/air-conditioner doesnt light up and I can't see it at night. Is it a light-bulb or what? Any info will help!

Take the trim off around the radio-a/c controls, remove the 4 hex screws from the controls and pull it out some (but not too far), you should see the wires (usually a black and a grey) going to the bulb(s). They should just pop (tug or twist.. I forget) out so you can change them.

Hey, Distrub,
Don't expect an incredible difference--though certainly replacing the bulb will help. Even with a higher intensity 194 bulb, the brightness is limited by inferior design.

To make the lighting brighter in my HVAC controls, I took off the radio/HVAC trim. Then, I actually popped off the front clear part with the lettering on it off of the controls. There is a black sheet of plastic behind the clear plastic peice, controlling how much light shines through. I made the hole where the light shines through it bigger, and now it is alot brighter. If you need any more details IM me on aol as thefast83camaro.

Pulled out my heater, and there is no lightbulb back there...am I missing something?!?!? Am I doomed to have an unlighted heater the rest of my car's life (which will be a very long time!)

I checked again when I had a little more time, and still no light. Is it hidden somewhere that I have to move a bunch of stuff?

Pull the heater assembly out a bit. The light should be on the upper passenger side. If nothing is there, feel for the hole where the socket inserts. If the hole is there, but the socket/bulb is missing, seach around a bit. Could be that the socket/bulb has managed to work its way out and is flopping around somewhere--turn the lights on at this point.

I forget but, I think camaros only had one bulb in them. Here's where they are on a firebird control (red arrows)... a camaro would have at least one in a similar location. IIRC as well (my camaro has a 'bird hvac in it), the camaro control has a 194 bulb in it as well ? Don't quote me on any of that except where the bulbs on in the picture..

The Camaro 194 bulb is on the backside of the controls.

yeah...it is a pain in the a** though. The instrument cluster ones are a little difficult, you have to remove the bulbs from behind the gauges. If you pull of the gauge bezel and the plastic piece, then the metal piece, you will see what I mean. They are kind of back behind the speedometer gauge. I used needlenose pliers the firsat time I switched them out. The second time, I removed the whole gauge cluster to replace it so it was a little easier.

I found the lightbulb hole, but there is not bulb or connection to be found anywhere! Its not the only light im missing though. I was going to put a light where the stock shift light is, but there is no bulb connection there either, same with the security bulb and one or 2 more on the gauge. Is it some kind of wierd factory delete? Is there another way to get my heater to light up...maybe a 3" neon...

I found it!!

It the bulb connection was WAY back in the back and I literallyhad to pull out my stereo, its adapter, and the stereo trim to find it, but I found it, and my heater now lights up!
