Take the u pin out off the t-handle and pull that and the e-brake handle off. Then open ther console lid inside the console theres two 10mm bolts, take those out and on the plastic part (shift plate) theres two 7mm bolts take them out too , disconnect your power window switches shift light lighter wires, ect. might be a good idea to label em' then theres a metal bar going across the console bolted to the shifter 10mm i think then just manuvere around the shifters an it'll come out , if you really wanna take the radio pod out you can but its no nessecary.
Hope this helps

Should be a screw on the left hand side , toward the console , if yours is leather wrapped there is a hole just stick a phillips head screwdriver in there and turn youll feel it come out then pull it out and slide it up and off
Ok
I have taken all the screws off, and have taken the parking break cover off. Now I am working on the shifter. I cant find any phillips head screws in there. I have looked in the hole in the leather on the drivers side, and have looked in the leather in the hole on the A/C control side. I still cant find anything. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank You

I have a leather warpped shift handle on a 91 Z28 convt
I do not see any holes for screws or retainer clip on the shaft
I do not want to damage the leather
Any suggestions on how to get it off?

"You have to push the **** down first. Then take off the button and take off the c-clip that keeps the **** from flying off. Then it slides up and off."

OK I tried, but the leather shift **** does not move down on the shaft. It moves up and down about a 1/16". It feels and sounds like there is a keeper ring inside at the bottom of the leather ****. I tired with the shifter in all gear positins and with the button depressed. No luck
Any suggetions on what I anm doing wrong?

Ok, here is what I found. On the radio side of the shifter you will find a hole in the leather. That metal thing inside is a clip that is holding the shifter in place. So have to use alot of force (probably using needle nose pliers) to yank the clip out. Once it is out, the shifter cover will come off. I hope this helps.
