4th gen steering wheel
Anyone have a 4th gen steering wheel installed in their thirdgen? Were there any major obsticles to overcome to install it?
Reason I ask is I'm very interested in taking a steering wheel from a recent (99-02) TA w/ the redundant radio controls and making them work with my aftermarket head unit.
The electrical aspect of the interface from the buttons to the head unit is a semi-separate issue, one not for this body forum...BUT I'm interested in seeing if anyone had trouble hooking up the horn and such.
I have a 99 GM manual for my dad's TA and it give a pretty good diagram of the system. What is does show is that all wires coming and going into the wheel go through a "coil assembly". This seems to me like a fancy term for stretchable wires that can bend enough to stay together as the wheel turns.
along with any actual mounting differences, that's the area I'd like more info about if anyone has it. Thanks in advance
PS-I think I did a pretty good job of explaining myself, but if I'm confusin' anyone just lemme know and I'll give it another try

I found a steering wheel id like to use to for that purpose and it comes witht he whole column and i was wondering if it would bolt up. It probaly should i would guess.
Also what if the airbag has gone off? Can u just get a new bag for the middle? or do you have to get a whole new steering wheel
fatal88- Is that grey or black? I have a black interior and i dont think the grey would go well with black. What do you think?

I have no idea. I bought the wheel already like this.
You could try to remove the airbag, but I don't advise it.
Just leave it in the wheel.

Anyone ever just add them to the stock wheel? Im going to buy a 92 with an airbag already and I hate the look of the 4th gen wheel with the radio controlls ( had to drive a minivan with the same wheel)

All joking aside, the coil assembly is part of the airbag system. If you swap the airbag column into your car, I highly suggest you find a way to leave the 'coil assembly' out. In my 91's its a huge yellow whatziss that can't possibly be missed.
