Turn signal switch

Here is my problem. When I bought my car there was electrical tape on the switch. It worked perfectly fine until recently. The only problem I had with it, was you had to push it really far to get the windshield washer fluid to squirt out. Now it does not squirt out at all and Today I pushed it too far and it went all the way around and the wipers dont even go on now. Can somone tell me an easy way to fix it since I need it working cause it is snowing out here and I need to fix it in the freezing cold.

UPDATE. I pulled the lever out of the column and unhooked one single wire under the dash. I pulled the rest of the wire up through the column. Now I am off to the dealer to get a new wiper/turn signal/cruise control arm. I didn't think that it would be that easy. I did a search earlier and saw that a lot of people had to pull up a number of wires through the column. Took about 10 minutes

Shoulda tied some string to the wire before pulling it through, 'cause now you have to thread that sucker back through the hard way. Wish I'd seen this post sooner.

I think that was one of the easiest things I have fixed on my car. There was one wire that I unplugged and pulled it through the column. After I got the new one I just fished it back down.
10 minutes out and 10 minutes in. I now have a brand new switch and everything works on it.
And another thing. My washer sprayer didn't work so I bought a new motor and now everything is as good as new.

i do this stuff all the time. it is easy after doing it about 100 times. the help parts are good replacments, but if it were my car i would buy gm( but that is because i get a discount). the wires are easy to feed through if you bend them and the connector to be strait with the column, and have a drop light at the other end of the column hole.

hope this helps

New switch at the Dealer was $125. Kind of a lot, but now I never have to worry about it. Something happened last night though. I was using my windshield wipers that worked ever so well when all of the sudden they stopped I took the cover off by where the little motor is and that little blue piece that spins around broke out of nowhere. I guess tomorrow I will have to make a trip to the junkyard and get a new one.

Well I put a new cover on with the plastic piece that spins around and my wipers still won't move. Do you have to spin the gear or position the plastic piece at all??? I tried pushing the wipers down with my hand cause they are halfway across the windshield but they wouldn't go down with force.Right now I am out of Ideas And I would like to get it fixed asap.

you need to check to make sure you are getting power and all the right signals down at the wiper motor. use a test light to make sure you have power, a signal that comes on when the wiper switch is on and goes away when the switch is off, also make sure that the realays for the wiper motor are good, and that there is a good ground at the motor wire if it is not a self grounding setup.

dont force the arms down, you will break the gears, it will return to normal as soon as you find the prob, because the motor uses nipples on one of the gears to trigger the back and forth motion.

good luck

Another update... Fuse was blown and I put a new one in. It still didn't fix it. The wipers only move in the high position. THey go up and down a few inches only really quick. I finally got them to go down but they are not going all the way across the windshield and it still wont spray. I'm thinking that something has to be ligned up?

that is what i told hom to do also.

did you check to make sure that you are getting all the right signals to the motor. to check the ground, connect the test light lead to the positive terminal of teh battery, then touch the ground. the light should be bright, not dim. if it is dim, then you need to track down your ground and clean and tighten it up.

thanks

Just took the cover off and here is what I found. That little blue piece keeps breaking off. I am not sure if you have to lign anything up when you put it back together.
