Door window question...
Do the windows from manual and power window doors mount any different? Are they the same?
Just curious.

Not exactly what I meant.
Let me clear this up..
Are there any differences in the GLASS and the way it mounts in the regulators? I have power windows but mine have scratches on them from the snubber things that bolt on the top of the door and the outer window sweeps. I got a parts car that has manual windows and I want to pull the glass and put that good glass in my doors.
Any problems with this?
Thanks again..

eb the windows are exactly the same. you ask how do i know? i retrofitted two non-power doors on to my roc(freaking women hitting my car
). i then converted them to power everything and reused the same glas that came with the non-power doors. a little adjusting and everything is a-ok.

also a note: (a little on the late side) 82-88 windows are different from the 89-92 windows. the 89-92 window is larger(taller). the holes in the 88' window for the stops are machined a bit higher. what u end up with is a 1/4" gap up top with the stops maxed out. once again i learned the hard way.
oh well. best of luck.

did you use those "locking" tabs on the window? or just those little pressed in platic caps? i layed the glasses on top of each other and they are in fact different. the mounting holes for the track and the "locking tabs are a little different. the glass is also a little taller. this is on a t-top car(shouldn't make a difference)

I installed a window from an 86 into my late 89 RS and it didnt leak on me at all but when I sold it to my friend he went through a car wash and lets say he got a free shower along with the wash
I didnt know they were different at all though.

the windows arent any different from 82-92. I have 86 window motors and regulators in my 91, and the work fine....if the mounting holes on the window were in a different location on the 86 as opposed to the 91, the regulator would have slightly different geometry and wouldnt work right.
My glass goes up and down smooth as silk, right up into the seal, and never leaks a drop.

try lying a late model glass on top of a early model glass and then come back and say they aren't different. as for slapping on a early window onto a late door w/o regulator......:nono:
ok. that's all folks.

There's a difference regarding internals, too. 82-84 has different door internals (window tracks) than 85-up... but if you see something different, don't panic, an 82-84 window will fit into an 85-up door.
The window sash (metal along bottom of window) can come up through the front of the door, if you remove the fill piece (the black triangle at the bottom).
BEFORE you remove ANY screws, do yourself a favor. Take a scribe (ice pick), and circle the exact location of the bolt heads, so you leave a mark in the door. You can also use spray paint, too, to spray over the bolts. These markings are important; they'll help you align the new window to your car without difficulty. If you just remove all the screws and don't make a mark, you'll go thru hell trying to align things.
As to this 89-92 window deal; if the holes really are cut higher in the glass, the entire 89-92 door internals might have to come out and go in the "earlier" door, along with the window. I can't say I've ever seen an 89-92 glass in the junkyard; around my way, the newest I've seen is '88.
