Center Console Lid

I have a 91 firebird and just got a new center console lid. The only problem is I can't figure out how to disconnect and reconnect the big hinge that goes inside the console. Do I have to remove the entire center console? Any help? Thanks!

My hindge has 3 screws on the lid and 3 (mabey 2) cews inside the glove box. They shuould just be reg screws, This is on my 91 camaro, so it might be differant.

That piece is connected to a spring inside the console .. easiest way is to unscrew the rear ash tray and you'll gain access to the spring where you can get it off and pull the cover off

Correct, When I changed mine, I removed the ash tray, and then undid the spring... I do not remember anything else back there but the spring... Actually after I got done, it actually worked again.

mine and my brothers latches used to take some strength, but we just broke the latch insides and they open and close freely. i went to a junkyard and i found a"glovebox" lid that had a perfect working latch, and i might go back and buy it. i think that one has a cracked inner lid too just like mine. if i unscrew the lid, the very top part is very cracked, and the fake leather doesn't fit in completely. it loks very fragile so i want a new one.

I replaced my whole console last year, and yes it does take more strength to open it now.
