Hello, Does anybody know anyone that makes a Plexiglass rear hatch for our cars, I'm making my car a drag car, and I'm looking to drop weight and I know this would help, maybe I could just put my own plexiglass on the existing hatch, any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Dave

 

There was someone that made them. Try checking on the SCCA racing website. Check out the 3rdgens they have and I'm pretty sure you can find out who make the hatches or any forsale.

if you just want to remove the glass and put in plexiglass (lexan would be better)

You could just go to home depot or call up mcmaster-carr and get you a sheet of lexan, cut to size, lay a bead of silicon down, pop rivit or sheet metal screw the lexan in and be done for under $100

 

Summit or Jegs or different places, do a search for camaro hatch online.
Speed Glass is the best , better than lexan and 100 more bucks $355 , but wont scratch and turn funny colors from the sun.
They come formed and/or trimmed to fit.

 

Percy's speedglass, Harwood, Glasstek and most aftermarket fiberglass companies sell a lexan hatches for the third gen. it is far from a bolt on though.

How long did it take to mount yours? Installing my Percy's took about 5 hours between mounting the dzus fasteners, and building inside supports out of chromemoly so it wouldn't blow out like the last one (harwood) did at 182 mph. It sounds like you have never even seen one up close, let alone installed one. Try mounting the hinges on 1/8 inch lexan and let me know how you make out. By the way the lexan and fiberglass decklid are two separate pieces. the lexan is usually mounted permanently with the fiberglass decklid held on with dzus buttons for acces to the fuel cell/batteries/nitrous bottles.

they make a form fitted and trimmed rear hatch speed-glass piece. That is pretty much a bolt on, not far from it at all.
You dont have to install as 9.0L firebird did and you can get thicker than 1/8 inch , just cause you have some status here doesnt mean you are correct.
So what will not be tolerated, maybe I did go overboard with the " ask your mother", but I didnt do it in a derogatory way. I thought maybe you would listen to her since you wont listen to me or call Percys or Glass-Tek yourelf, which I had just spoken to.
