For all those who made there own White face gauges.

I'm wanting to make my own White face gauges and I was wandering where do you get the stencils? I have an '86 cluster with an '89 145mph speedo. And also what kind of printer paper did you use?

Since you have the 145 MPH gauges, you are welcome to use the ones i have on my webpage. However, they do not have a spot for the trip meter (mne is broken, so I covered it) and I also removed the km/h. I just printed mine on photo paper.

the best and easiest way to do it is with your current gauge and a scanner. take your gauges off and scan them. i used highgloss photo paper and i sprayed elmers spray adhesive in a cup and brushed it on the bakc of the photopaper to glue the gauge to the cluster. if you are really lazy or dont have a scanner i can send the ones i have to you. they look awesome. here is a thread i wrote on how to properly take off your needle for the gauges without breaking it and not worry about mis-aligning your speedo when you put it back on. gas, tach, fuel, and oil pressure gauges have to have their positions marked at normal operating tempature so you can recall where to put the needle later. heres the link..

Here's a zip of a whole bunch of them. I don't remember who was distributing this package, so I can't give credit to the other gauges, but I scanned and re-did the base white gauges setup, standard white with black numbers speedo and other gauges, the IROC/Z28 Tachs, etc. Worked out good in both my cars, looks sweet. Some others did red lettered gauges and stuff that are in that zip.

I'm about to start experimenting with black light leds and certain inks to see if I can come up with a cool glowing at night custom white face set indiglo-sytle... We'll see what happens.

Link to the zip might help eh? www.inter-scape.com/ray/gauges.zip I think this has some guages for other than 85-89 or whatever years it was too...

Hmm, actually that one doesn't have all my white face with black letter temp/fuel/volt gauges, only someone elses red lettering. I think white/black looks cleaner... If you want them, here is just my standard pack I did way back when... www.inter-scape.com/ray/MyGauges.zip

Make sure whatever graphics program you have doesn't resize them before printing. If they print way too big that is the culprit... Some programs try to change the resolution down to like 72 dots per inch or something, it's supposed to be up at like 151 pixels/inch I believe it was...

I had mine printed at Kinkos, on their high grade but non-glossy paper. Turned out real nice, have gotten compliments from all who've seen them. Still want something where the lettering appears to glow at night though...

What I did in my hot rodded Contour was take the gauges to a vinyl print shop and had them scan the gauges. They then changed the colors and fonts, as well as added custom graphics if I wanted them, then printed the gauges on clear vinyl.

I attached those prints to 3mm thick clear lexan. On the back side of the lexan, I could attach any color of translucent vinyl I wanted to to make the numerics glow in that color with the factory clear ilumination bulbs. For black numbers to glow, I had them print a primer layer of black with large numbers, then a white background layer for the gauge face, then smaller black numbers over that. This left me with a very cool outlined glow around each number.

I ran a business on the internet for over three years making these custom gauges before moving on to other things. The printing rivals the stock silk screen for quality and runs about $30 or so for the prints and needed materials, plus labor cost to do the scans and graphic changes.

PM me and I'll try to remember to post some pics if you're interested in learning more about the process. BTW, there are a few companies making gauges like these as well. http://www.blackcatcustom.com is one such company...

Depends on the program, but assuming youj're using any of the decent large programs like Paint Shop, Fireworks, etc, there should be a image properties dialog where you can change the dpi or resolution. You'll have to look around in whatever program you are using (crap like Windows Paint, etc probably can't do it)
