Aren't they silver to begin with? Polished anyway.....

Chrome is cool, but plate it, don't cheap out and use chrome "paint".

IMO, chrome paint is just a crappy silver color. Here is a picture of my 88 Iroc wheels on my 91 Jimmy. Still in stock form, they are all silver paint(no aluminum is showing through). I'm guessing yours are 16's though, but you get the idea.

myself...I think the metallic charcoal looks good. I did a set of the 16X8 85-88 IROCS...they came out very nice...

Looks good Wishmaster's87IROC! What was the exact steps you took and the specific paint used? You could e-mail me if you want with the info but i think it would benefit anyone else looking for the same look! Just curious if you polished first or painted first. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work. Later

I stripped the wheels of all the clear and paint in the inserts....then polished them, (well had someone polish them) then taped them off and took them to my friends who painted them with a car sprayer.....I went to the paint store and they mixed up the color I wanted...it was PPG paint for a car, BASE COAT....

Thanks for getting back to me. Sounds good enough! What kind of clear coat did you use though. It was a ppg gun metal color, right, and the clear coat was also a ppg paint? Thanks again.

It was PPG as well...he dont like to mix & match stuff...here a picture of the can of paint....its all dried up but I kept it in case I need some more I can get the mixing code off the can. Ive had it on my rims for about a year and yes the paint is called Gun Metal Metallic....

Bad ***! Thanks man. A couple of other questions, that one pint was good enough for all four right? Also, who did you get to mix the paint? I guess i could always go down to my body shop too. Thanks again.

I got half a pint, i think thats the lowest they sell....thats all I needed and it was enough to do all four. there was a little left in the can but over the year it dried up...When you go to a auto paint shop they are the ones that mix it for you....They had a book with all the wheel paint colors and body colors, I just picked one that I liked...

Hey man, thanks for the time. I figured that is where you went b/c i work at Home Depot and i really did not think we mixed auto paint and i doubt like a Wal Mart or a speed shop would mix it. I am sure my body shop could do it for me, that is where i got my paint for my engine bay so i should be good to go. Thanks again-Later

those arent IROC rims... i got them on my 83 and 84 z28s. then they used them on the RS's all the way to 92, and some z28s. IROCs had the smaller center groove in them.

About the wheels on the Jimmy, they could be off of an iroc b/c some irocs came with 15" wheels just like the rs, and some z28 wheels. Maybe that is what he meant, but no, they are not the standard iroc wheels. 85-87 had the one stripe per spoke and 88-later had the two stripes per spoke.

Standard Iroc wheel in 88 is a 15x7 Camaro wheel, painted either all silver or all gold with a "special" Iroc center cap. Standard Iroc wheel in 89 is a 15x7 "mini" 16x8 wheel--looks just like the bigger Iroc wheel. 16's were an option both years. I think this info is also in the tech data.

Well, yeah, they were standard wheels, but there were like 2 made. OK, more than 2, but MOST were not 15's. TECHNICALLY if you're going by GM, 15's were standard. But we all know that's not really what came "standard".

and finally getting back to this thread..... yes, that is what i was implying! lol "Standard" by GM standards is what comes on the cars before you lay down more cash for an "option" such as the wheels you see on 95% of the irocs out there. That is what i meant, but i think Abubaca said it better than me. later

My 88 SC came with 16x8 IROC-Z rims. The thing Iloved about these rims were the fact they matched the color of the GFX, not to mention they just look so damn good.

If you had the cash, the option was yours..

I'm working on polishing up next week after I get in new shocks and struts into my car...

These are the RS wheels... originally the same color as the body (red). When I painted the car, we painted the wheels charcoal. Hopefully I'll be replacing them soon, but at least it looks better than red.
