we all need it; somebody make it!

I am 6' tall and can't seem to fit to comfortably in my 90' Camaro.
I tell you what would help would be a 1-2" steering wheel spacer for everyone.
Any suggestions? I also have an airbag.

Just don't forget that unless it's made of polished unobtanium and is priced under $10, nobody will buy it and they'll all just sit there and complain that it's overpriced. Every time somebody goes through the work to develop a thirdgen product, it's the same routine.

How about adapting, in part or whole, a 70s Vette tilt/telescopic collumn into the car. Then you could put the wheel where you want it. Most GM steering collumn parts are fairly interchangable, shouldn't be too hard.

I'm 6'4" and don't have any problem with the wheel placement, although I do like the vette tilt/telescope idea a lot!

What exactly is the problem you're having with the steering wheel placement? They do make aftermarket steering wheel adapters/spacers that you might be able to machine to work easier than doing totally one off for yourself.

I have more of a seat problem and need more legroom (something that's cured by going to 4th gen seats I hear).

Getting more legroom wouldn't be too hard...you could take 4 flat pieces of steel scrap, say 1"x 5", and drill a hole in each end. The front hole would be for the factory seat studs to stick through, the rear you would install a bolt about the same size, but slightly longer than the original stud. You could either thread the hole and just screw it in, or drill it and install a nut from the topside. Effectively you would have moved the studs back by the length of the strap, and as long as you use Grade 8 hardware or better you haven't really compromised the factory mounting anyway. Never tried it (I'm 5'6", don't need the seat any further back), but I don't see any reason this wouldn't work. It would be a lot cheaper than changing seats, which BTW probably wouldn't help much in that regard.

Thanks for the "how to". It would work and has in the past for me in an '85 Dodge charger I had. The change in the T.A. however, will come from 4th gen seats which have either longer seat tracks, or slightly further back set mounting points... I can't tell which from what people have said that have done it since they only report "more leg room".

Redraif had my 4th gen SS seats in her car for a while, and we didn't notice a difference in that respect, but neither of us are very tall either (though she does sit further back than I do). I could do some measuring on the 4th gen seats and a set of PMDs we have out to see if there is a difference, but I would think any leg room difference might have to do with the height of the seat , or the angle of the seat bottom.

Hmm.. I'm 6'4'' and don't have much of a problem. I keep the seat all the way back and just have to raise the steering wheel to get out, but its not that bad.

I'm 6 foot tall, no problems here either. I keep the seat all the way back, and I've had both 3rd and now 4th gen seats and I never noticed any difference.

I'm going to go to the local junk yard and hack up a steering column with a bag already blown. Everybody else do their homework. I'm doing mine.

Redliner, do you have ttops. if so do you have to take the drivers side off to drive with your head straight?JK. I have owned an fbody since I was 15 . I am now 25 and I can tell you that it was a lot easier back then to get in and out.
