Trunk lock, is it needed?

Hey, some f*ckhead broke the plastic facia plate and ripped the lock right off the car along with twisting the metal into a mess, my question, I have the remote trunk release on my car, and want to know if I can bolt a metal plate over the damage, will I be able to use the trunk release to open the trunk?

At the moment the trunk release doesnt work, Any ideas as what to look for to fix it? Also any idea as how to open the trunk now???

Those bastards couldnt get the trunk open, they got the doors open and got my OHHH so valuable $35 600 JENSON amp , they didnt get my blown RF punches though I bet they were pissed, at least theres something to laugh about.... THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!

if u look i the hole where the key lock was ull see a slot, stick a flat head screw driver in it and trn it clockwise, or is it counterclockwise...anyway turn it the way it will turn and the hatch will open...

its not part of the system, the pop uses a cable that pulls the part that closes on the erg i wish i knew what the call the stuff, anyway the hatch release releases when u pullt he swtich goes through a solinoid inthe end releasing the hatch, i bet if the guys breaking in knew all they needed was a screwdriver theyd be mad...lol

Hey, the part that the screwdriver goes through was'nt right there, I had to get a coat hanger and fish it back down, I guess when they ripped it off the latch pulled back, but its open and subs are now out of the car and the trunk cover is open so everyone can see I have NOTHING back there...

Anyone know a way to diagnose the trunk release? like what to look for, seems like everything backthere is hooked up and the button isnt broken when I hit it I hear it click, but isnt popping the back... Dont know to much about it...
