What is this hole for?

Get your mind out of the gutter.

I pulled my right front fender off today & found this square hole which leads to the kick panel area. It is shiny around the edges like something used to reside there. I ripped the interior out a long time ago so I have no clue what was there.

That's where the ECM harness used to run through.

Uh, It could be the hole for the engine harness, but I am not too sure. Do you have a shop manual around to verify?

ECM- o.k. that makes sense. That hole is the reason my "check engine soon light" has been on for years.

I'll just weld in a patch to seal it. Thanks everyone.

EDIT: oh, and Zepher, I do have a Chilton's manual, but there was nothing in the index under "mystery hole."

I think it mentions ECM Bulkhead connector in there somewhere.
It might have been in the GM service manual though.
With the T/A fenders, it is easy to get to and weld shut with the fender still on the car,

Yeah, I should probably get a service manual because the Chilton's isn't very comprehensive. But the car is such a mutt now that I wouldn't know what year manual to buy! (83 body, 91 nose & tail, 89 interior, early 70's engine/trans, 86 Iroc rearend...)

There is a fender vent insert that goes there.

It is stock on the 82-90 Trans Am's.
Shouldn't be too hard to put onto a Camaro.

There is a slight lip there, but someone who's a decent metalworker could make them fit in any fender. I'll be trying that myself on a stock Firebird fender, since they're a lot easier to find (and cheaper) around here.
