gauges not working...
gauges not working...
well i have an 1986 2.8 V6 sport coupe. the temperature gauge doesnt work... so while we had a parts car here, i grabbed a complete gauge cluster off of an 87 camaro LT, but it was a 305 V8 car. the gauge cluster looks to be one whole unit... is it possible to swap just the temp gauges? i would change the whole cluster, but then the tach wouldnt work since its from a V8 car.
what else would cause the temperature gauge to not work?

yea mine are all needles... not lights, ill check the wiring with the temp sending unit/sensor tomarrow when im under the hood again. shoulda been the first thing i checked before i posted
lol thanks for pointing me in the right direction, ill see if anything happens tomarrow.
lol thanks for pointing me in the right direction, ill see if anything happens tomarrow. yea we checked the sensors, and they are fine, and we found that the gauge is pegged all the way up, on the highest temperature, and when my dad and our mechanic neighbor jumped power to the gauge to see if it would jump or move but it didnt do anything... leading us to suspect theres something wrong with the gauge. its like stuck in the highest temperature, full position.
is it possible to swap just the temp gauges? or basically what i asked in my original post? lol
thanks!

is it up past 240? have u pulled the black trim and the clear piece under off and move the gauge with your finger? mine was stuck like that i just hit it with my finger and it fell down to 100, worked ever since, made me mad cause the previous owner didnt try that and tore all the wiring for the cooling fan out cause he thought the car was overheating and ghetto wired it up to a switch and put a new sunpro temp guage down by the gas pedal that i get my foot stuck between the back of it and the gas pedal...if u havent taken the pieces off, it only takes a few minutes and its worth a try, it might not fix it but i think it will

My tach will peg sometimes when I start my car. Stupid test cycle
I just took out the plastic cover inbetween the trim and the gauges so I can move the needle back if needed.

My temp gauge often got stuck on the black faceplate thing. It would do it every time, so I cut a little off the end so it couldn't

re temp guage stuck
seems to be a common problem.
My temp guage did the same thing occasionly so I grabbed a pin from my mums sewing draw, filed the pin head (not the sharp end) so it was flat, cut it down to about 3mm, spray painted it black, and glued it. This peg now stops in flying up when you start and getting stuck. works like a charm.
