How do you roll the fenderlip and mod the fenderwell....

I'm going to lower my car and I'm also going to get TT2's but I'm trying to decide whether or not I can run 17x11's out back. After doing a search it seems that a lowered car can't run 17x11's without some modding. What parts need to be modded and how do you (procedure-wise) perform these mods?

BTW, I'll be lowering the car with the Eibach pro-kit, adjustable panhard, and LCA relocation brackets.

Please help, thanks everyone.

On the inside of the wheel well there is a little 1/2" lip going in. As I understand it there are two ways to do this. First is taking a dremel or cutting tool to it and cutting that little lip off. Second, you could take either a hammer, or you hands and simply bend the lip up into the wheel well. If this is wrong let me know because I might be doing this too, but this is how I was told to do it. Hope it helps

Nate

GOOD LUCK!!

I've got the tip for rolling the wheelwell lips. Use a baseball bat. No, don't swing it at the car- wedge the bat between the tire and the fender lip and roll the car. The bat rolls along flattening the lip. You might want to do this before dropping the car or the tire will be too close to the lip for the bat to fit.

I read about doing this in Car Craft a few years back. My brother & I did it on his Chevy pickup and it worked sweet. To roll the lips before the 5-7 drop, we had a 3rd person sitting on the bedrail for weight to push the wheelwell lip down on the bat. You might have to push down on the hatch for good contact.

That baseball bat idea sounds like it could work pretty well. Any other ideas or advice?

I just did this a few days ago. With a 4 lb sledge hammer I couldn't get a good enough swing to bend the lip up. Then we took a hacksaw and cut into the fender lip every 3" or so. After that a baby swing will bend the lip up and help it get out of the way.

wow.. that IS a cool too.... $300 though... ouch.. now im going have to go make one.

i rolled the lip of my car a couple weeks back when i put a 4thgen rear on... i just took the wheel off, then started tapping with a 4lb sledge... first upward, then to the outside as it started to fold.... basicly you're just folding it up.

This is the same thing i was told by one of the older second gen guys I run with . The baseball bat approach gets my vote, worked great. . .

here's a tip to keep ur paint from cracking - use a heat gun and get the metal and the paint warm (not hot) the idea is to soften the paint and make it a little more flexiable so that it doesnt crack.

did mine crack? no.

did the guy with the lime green 70s mopar down the street crack his? yes.. a lil chip came off.

i dont think anyonce can give you a black and white yes or no answer.. i think you just have to be careful when doing it...

very fresh paint should still be somewhat soft and pliable.
