also, has anybody ever painted the plastic shifter trim and radio bezel face on a t/a? i was thinking about painting then like a chrome color and then painting the plastic piece on the guages chrome or maybe just around the guages. i have a black interior so i thought this would look pretty sweet. and i have a stock black t/a wheel and i thought id paint the metal spokes chrome too, maybe it will set it all off? what do you think? that new plastic paint stuff is pretty good so i know it would work.

I remember someone made some cardboard cutouts of a fire bird emblem and then glued it onto his headliner and covered it. It looked sweet as he11.

I have a link to it in my sig..
It's not too much work unless you plan out everything you are going to do.
I'm also in the works of some door panels also. They are also on my site.

I don't know if it would look very good since you are using a thick headliner material and trying to cover a small object. I doubt there is going to be much for you to to with T's. About the only things I can think of are some flames. But, I guess you'll just have to think about it for a while.. I'm sureyou'll come up with a good idea.

Good luck.

yeah, im thinkin flames that start on that big spot in the back and then go up and spread out on the "T" in front. but like i said im not artistic at all so itll take me a while to make flames.

I kept this picture of redraif's redone t-top headliner, to show you how the material could be wrapped. This seems to be the hardest part of doing a t-top one:

At least I'm pretty sure these were redraif's pics.

I got one out of a salvage yard for $10. I had to recover it.. but it's better than buying a new one. But they are all usually falling apart though.

Looks like you got your headliner questions taken care of but no one has addressed your questions about painting your radio bezel and your console top. There have been a few people who have done that on here. I did the same as Flyinlow89 did and painted mine chrysler metallic platinum. I also have the shifter **** from a 93 grand am cause my t-bar one broke. It will fit as long as the retainer clip slides in in the same position. All the shifter **** does is push a plastic rod down inside the shifter itself. This is kind of a bad pic but you can see my radio trim and different shifter. Hope that helps!

yeah, thats what i want to do, does it go well with your interior? do you think it would look better with the guages around the circle painted? also did you paint the radio bezel front too? i cant really tell in that picture. if you ever get any other pictures let me know, id really like to see what it looks like

Yeah I did the radio bezel too. Somewhere I have more pix of it I will look for them. I haven't decided whether to do the trim around the gauges yet but flyinlow89 did his and they look good but his car is that color too. All I painted were the panels that were that glossy black checkerboard stuff. I never liked it and mine was starting to get really scratched. Those being the only panels in the car that checkerboard stuff I didn't think that they would look out of place with a little face lift!

Actual headliner material really isn't that thick and is pretty stretchy, unless you want to go with vinyl or leather or something. You should be able to do about anything you want, unless you want something real intricate with lots of little detail. You don't have much to work with on a t-top headliner but it shouldn't be hard. Just use some high density 1/4 foam and cut out the design that you want, 45 the edges and glue it on there. Then glue your headliner material over it, be sure to get good around the edges and take your time. Same goes for wrapping the headliner, just take your time and its not hard at all, just cut what you need at the corners to make it lay nice.
