Here's my 84 bird with a 95 CAMARO console!
Who says it doesn't fit? Haha, slid the console as far foward as I could, then mounted it, and used my old console to fab a piece to cover the gap. I cutout the bottom of the ashtray, and then I screwed the lid to the inside of the console so the lid doesn't open. I mounted my window switches and my fan switch there, and man, it looks great!
Even got my new deck in today too!

I know there' s a lil gap on the ashtray lid, the last screw i put in twisted it up a bit, but you can't notice it when looking down on it...
yeah, i read around and they said it wouldn't fit, or you'd have to heavily modify it. I didn't do much to it actually, I don't think I'm the best at custom jobs, but I think it turned out fairly well for me being moderately mechanically inclined.
I was kickin myself for not snappin a pic of the console before, but I found one on my computer. Here's the before!

nobody said it didn't fit, thats why tons of people have already done this mod because its more or less a direct bolt in. And loochy to save yourself the trouble the seats are also a direct bolt in no modifications required at all

I'm the one who said it wouldn't fit (without modifications). I still think it doesn't look right. The way it meets up with the radiopod area just grates on me. Sorry.
I tried the same model console as you used and couldn't stand the radiopod console problem. I threw it in the garbage as a result.

I could see how it would get on your nerves, but i minimized the gap, so it actually looks like it belongs.
As for the people telling me it bolts right in, I know that. I was talking about the gap, that's all. Oh, and of course I already knew about the seats bolting in. I'm no moron.

While we are all talking about the 4th gen seats bolting right in. I have a set on the way. Can anyone tell me if the electric 4th gen seats will go back any further at all than the 3rd gen ones? I need a couple of inches(leg room) if possible. Also, would I be able to mount the new ones just a little further back?

anything is possible with modification...
I agree! It's amazing the effect that just having a new console has. I fell in love with the car again! Call me crazy!

oh cool i never though i could do that modd because its all connected in the pre85 did u have to cut it?
Yes, I did have to cut the old console. Because the pre-85 firebird's console is one piece. I custom fabbed a piece out of my old consoles plastic to cover up the gap so you can't really tell it doesn't belong. Overall, took me about 5 hours from start to finish.

I agree. I've seen a couple Camaros and early firebirds with this swap now, and I still haven't seen one that looked right. I applaud the effort, but without a custom fabbed radio pod that actually looks like it was meant to go with the center console, I just don't see that swap ever looking right.Originally posted by 3.1EyeCandy
