Shift indicator removel

Im trying to remove my shift indicator from my 90 camaro. People say that it pops right out after taking the console out, but mine has some surrounding on it with the whole system up under it where you cant get to it. im scared if i pry it off then it will not be alligned right or i will not be able to get it on. my shift indicator has scratches and all so i bought a white faced one for it. can anyone help me?

My entire console top console plate comes off in my bird, not sure about yours.

1. Remove shifter handle.
2. Remove two screws located under the front of the console lid.
3. Might want to remove the cover plate around the stereo and
HVAC controls.
4. Lift the entire console cover up just a little ways.
5. Disconnect window switches, mirror switch, and cigarette
lighter(if applicable).
6. Remove console cover completely.
7. Remove four screws holding entire shift indicator assembly.

It's either a U shaped pin in the front of the shifter on the shaft, or you pull the **** off and then pull the pin depending on the year of the car.

They are torx-bit screws..

All u need to do is get ahold of either a torx-screwdriver or a interchangeable screwdriver w/ torx-bit attachments.. not a very expensive tool and it's almost a MUST when u own a 3rdGen..

I'm not sure what the correct size is for the ones used on these cars.. u can buy packages..

Hopefully someone will post who knows the correct size..

u definally need one of the fold up torx key sets...our cars have very few parts (if any) that us phillps or falt head screw drivers..also seems i run in to alot of stuff that needs a 10mm socket too
