Anyone replace the carpeting on the plastic interior pieces?

I'm going to redo my interior this summer including seat covers, carpeting, and repainting all the interior panels. I want to replace the carpeting that's glued onto the panels since it looks kind of ragged. Has anyone else done this? If so where did you get carpeting that matched your factory color?

Check out some of the sponsor links at the top of the site. Thirdgen Resource carries carpet. If anything, you can get exact information from them.

never seen the carpet for the trim pieces in the rear for sale, Really I would think it should be pretty straight forward... I would replace the carpet and then go to a reputable upholstery person and buy remnants for the panels. cut to fit...

BTW, I think some of the carpet panels were stapled and glued...

It's easy to do yourself

Paul, I just posted a message about how to reupholster your headliner, sunshades, and rear speaker covers. Same principles apply to any other carpet-covered thing. Check out my post:

staples suck

okfoz, the old material on my rear speaker covers (sails) was stapled at the top. That was stupid and retarded, so I took them out and just hot glued everything this time. Not like a half an ounce of material is heavy enough to warrant staples..

camaro87... redoing the panelling carpet is a whole different story from redoing headliners and sail panels. the carpet is a LOT heavier.

okfoz... I recommended he talk to the sponsors because:
1: they sponsor this site. der...
2: he plans on redoing the entire interior. he can buy preformed carpet from them and probably get extra matching carpet for the kickpanels and lower center console from them for cheap.

and as far as I could tell from my car, the carpeting on the plastic interior pieces is only glued, not stapled.

I saw in JC Whitney that ACS (Auto Carpet Systems) sells carpet by the yard to match the molded carpets they sell. I don't know how close a match to factory colors it is but I think they will send you a sample of the carpet before you buy it if requested.
I also saw somewhere here that someone took off the carpet on those pieces and the bare plastic looked good also.

My parts car has bare plastic, and both look great. I'm planning to go with carpetted cause I love my music. The less rattling in the car, and the more sound deadening, the better.

1: I never said he shouldn't talk to the sponsors, I just said I WOULD get some Remnants from an upholster. (might get it for FREE! they are small enough) I do not care where he gets it from.
2: Probably could, never said he could not. (Where were you going with this?)

as for your last comment: Here is a rear panel with staples.

I re-did the console and the kick panel carpeting when I swapped from red to neutral in my car - and I simply tore off the old carpeting and used 3M spray glue to put the new on. Worked very well!
I bought some extra carpeting from 1aauto when I ordered my carpet/floor mats - to use for miscellaneous pieces.

Here is a shot showing the console (and a little bit of the kick panel:

I have not yet gotten the door panels and rear side panels re-covered in a matching neutral color, but I will when time permits!

ChevyKen yours looks very good. I will try asking whoever I get the molded carpet from if they have any remnants. I'm not worried per say about finding the carpet, just about finding a near perfect match.
Thanks for all the replies guys.

ChevyKen: clean!! it looks great man.

okfoz: relax friend i'm not out to flame anyone. I wasn't aware that the rear panels were ever carpeted. Mine came with carpetted kick panels and lower center console, but not anything in the back.

Where I was going with response #2 is what you said to response #1. I just thought it would be easier for him, if he was going to buy all the carpetting from somewhere, that he might be able to get the extra pieces from the same place so it's sure to match and doesn't have to go to two different places. Saves a trip.

ChevyKen: again, nice interior!!
