Are you SURE 4th Gen seats bolt right in?!?!?!?

I got my 1997 TA seats in the mail the other day and went to bolt them in.

(1)It seems the drivers side is manual, and the passenger side is power. Must say, one of the stranger things I have seen.

(2)Neither seat came even remotely close to bolting right in. Now I have $500 worth of junk in my basement.

What's the deal?

It sounds to me like you got 2 different seats, each of which got twisted in an accident. Either that or your car is twisted very badly. They bolt right in, and it's as easy as can be.

The power passenger seat (I'm assuming you mean power lumbar & not power track) uses the pump in the driver seat, so I guarantee that you got 2 different seats. Somebody probably took the good two that weren't tweaked and you got the leftovers.

But not all is lost. Unless the seat is completely tweaked, you can use the tracks from your stock seats. They'll bolt right up to the new seats.

Yea, my car should not be twisted. I have two seats of thirdgen seats and one set of 4th gen seats now. Both thirdgen sets bolt right in, and only the 4th gen's don't fit.

I must say, it looks as if they are twisted though, as the tracks do actually appear "unstraight." So I can unbolt the tracks that go over the studs in the floor from my thirdgen seats and put them on the 4th gen seats?

Yes, use the tracks off of the 3rd gen and put them on the 4th gen seats. Then grab a 13mm socket and gear wrench and have fun.

Oh, if you are old enough, grab a beer and enjoy the work spent on the car!!

After you've replace the tracks, make sure to align the "slide" part of the track to be in the same position on both sides.

A simple mistake that can cost you an hour.

You might want to try making sure the sliders are lined up correctly, that would make them seem as if they dont fit with the current tracks. They will slide independently.

Yes, this happened to me as well. If you can't line them up properly just move both tracks all the way front or back. Then they line up perfect! Eric

Thanks a lot. I'll try these things.

Sometimes, it is real easy to get discouraged when it comes to cars, especially when dealing with used parts. I told myself not to get discouraged until I asked on good old thirdgen.org, for good reason.

My '87's seats broke after some 15 yrs (I guess I can't complain since I'm a fat ***) and a new set of seats from a junkyard 4th gen for 80 bucks bolted right in...

like z28***** said.

Make sure that they are fully extended. What I usually do is mount the front two, loosely finger tighten the bolts down, hold the scroller on the side of the seat back and than position the rear holes over the bolts. Works everytime. Now I am just trying to figure the best way of moving them back 4 inches

I bought 2 front seats from a 96 Camaro for my '88 IROC, bolted right in.

I'm 6'3" @ 210 lbs. and need more leg room with the seat all the way back a partially reclined. 2-3 more inches should do it. I guess it has more to do with your inseam (36" here) than how tall you actually are. Plus, how much weight you carry puts you that much farther forward in the seat to start out with.

I'm 6'2 and 300+lbs and I need an extra inch or three

Mind you this is with the 4th gen seats that already go back about 2 inches more than the thirdgen seats. I saw a guy who moved his seats 4" back it looked great, and looked even more comfortable. My height is in my legs, not my torso.

You guys in the US are the lucky ones. The passenger seat is where I sit because of being in Australia. There is even less room for me sitting on the other side. I am expecting my 4th gen leathers any day now and cant wait for the luxury and the extra 2-3inches of space.
