floorjacks ? which ones.. and where do they go

A friend of mine came over to help me with the new 92 firebird formula I just got. he brought his jack and jackstands. so instead of tearng the body up. I figured I would ask you guys .. WHERE does the jack and jack stands go ? also I should get my own, so what do you guys recomend ? I know its a silly question but I rather be safe than sorry.
THanks for the help
CHris
P.S. if you guys can show any pictures that be great.

You can put the jacks in a number of places. Any of the crossmembers will do, as well as the rearend housing. You can also put them under the A-arms, and (obviously) under any part of the front or rear frame rails. I find the best jacking places are along my subframe connectors.

These uni body car's kind of suck for jacking up if you dont have SFC.

My buddy totally f'd up his camaro when he jacked it up.

thank goodness

OK, I am glad other people have had these problems. I felt like such a jerk not knowing where to jack up my car. I want to jack up the front of my car to refurbish my calipers and change brake pads. so I guess the best place is the crossmember right behind the front wheels ? also any suggestion about what brand of jack and jackstands I should get ? I would hate for the car to drop on my face.
Thanks
Chris

I used an AC Delco low clearance jack. AC Delco also makes jack stants which are alright. But I prefer the ratcheting kind.

Well if you have a big jack, itsbest to lift the whole front or rear of the car at the same time. So to lift the front, put the jack under the front cross member under the engine. (K member I think its called) For the rear the rear diff is a reall good place to lift the rear. On the rear, if you aren't removing the rearend the rear is a great place for the jack stands. For the front the jack stands can be placed right behind the wheels on the subframe rail. this rail will hold the car. you will want a jack stand that will cup the rail completly if possible. I don't really have any suggestions on brands, Your major concern with the jack, is that it will fit under the car, and that its got the reache to go from the front of the car to the cross member. Sears has a good one, but its$$$ look to pay 150+ for a jack that has the reach. As for jack stands, PM ones are cheap and I have never had a problem with them.

Only if its absolutly necissary lift one corner at a time, a few inches at a time. going back and forth. Don't go to high, you will twist the frame. If you are just doing brakes you can lift under the a arm, the body will hardly move but the tire will lift off the ground.

I used the a-arms when I changed my struts. The car wiggles a little, but thats because the springs are taking some weight and cans till move. It doesn't wobble or anyhting, but if you push down on the fender it goes down a little and pops back up.

Now where do you jack the rear end at? edit: if you need to take stuff off. I can't think of what stuff right now, i'm a bit whipped from being out all day
