some one tell me about what kind of camaro this is?

Okay I have owned another camaro and I know that it was a 1986 Z28. I knew this because of the person I bought it from was the orginal owner and had all of the orginal paper work... but now I have another camaro this will be the first car that I have ever worked on as far as making it look and run the way I want it to run and look... I am not all that up to date on what the diffrence between Z28, Iroc, SS, RS I know what they stand for but that don't tell me much in the way each are diffrent. well anyway back to what I was about to ask! I have another Camaro
1984 with a vin of 1G1AP87H7EL192347 I have read the vin decoder and found out somethings about it but I have no clue what it is Z28, Iroc... so on.... all of the orginal logo's are gone, and all the hardware is gone too... is there any way at looking at it what it is? I would like to know as when I get all of the parts for it I would like to get the right logo's that go with the car.. don't want to have the wrong ones on it... and also like to know what is up with the second set of lights under the grill green arrows point to a set of yellow covered lights. I was wondering if they were orginal driving lights and converted to fog lamps? my other camaro does not have these and I like to know about them

That's a Z28, it had a 5.0L engine in it as found here: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/vin/

The lights you see are fog lights, and they are optional. On newer vehicles they are usually seen with a "bowtie" grille, or a "camaro" grille. The particular car you're looking at has no grille currently in that picture. The front bumper fascia you have there with the three vents, is an older option, I'm not sure what years.

Camaros didn't have a fog light option until 1985.

From the VIN all you can determine is that it came with the LG4 V8, which doesn't necessarily make it a Z28.

That car you posted the picture of isn't a Z28, or at least it sure as hell doesn't look like one anymore. That front bumper is the base model bumper, and it doesn't have the z28 hood either. From the looks of it, it's a base 84 camaro.

Damn Jim, you beat me to it....

Ya, anyways...That is just your plain ole' Sport Coupe...not Z28 or anything....Just the base model Camaro...like my car.

That does help...

Thanks that does help out...
I am then to assume that the fog lamps are After market?
and the pic in the post is the same car as the VIN is listed to...
someone did butcher the car up bad with a can of spray paint.
and some other things.. there is some rust in the wheel well rear pass side. and some of the skins of the doors are showing rust.
Other than that under side is not bad shape... hmm I don't think it was a bad buy for 300.00 the motor runs great and the trans shifts well....

here is something that I would like to ask what would you do if the car was yours?

Well, what you do with it is really up to you, but ANY car that runs good is a good buy for $300! I personally wouldn't put much money into it, but there are some really nice looking sport coupes that these guys have made look really nice. Just look at fast83camaro's ride, or Bubbakutz has a really nice lookin one.

Yeah, thats a hell of a car for 300.00 if it still runs good and only has the rust you described. The perfect candidate for a 350 swap.

Jim, one correction:

Camaros didn't have a fog light option until 1985.

It's actually 1986. Fog lights were exclusive to the IROC-Z in 1985 only. In 1986, they were available on all Camaro models. In 1987, availability was limited to Camaro LT's with Option Package #4 (the highest and most expensive), Z28's with Option Package #3 (the highest and most expensive) and standard on the IROC-Z thru 1990 and Z28's in 1991 & 1992. They were never available on any year RS.

Absolutely, not from the factory. Look for RPO T96.

I suppose I should have said "availability", and not "option". Although if you really wanted fog lights that bad in 85, you could always have ordered them along with all the other junk that comes with the B4Z option package.

Not trying to start trouble, but how is it possible that someone with 398 posts on THIS website would think that was a Z28? Again, there are many people trying to learn the correct answers here. If you aren't sure, don't speak it.
