me and my GF have had awesome luck using the turtlewax upholstry/carpet cleaner. You can get it at any auto parts place, it sells for about $6.00 if I remember right.

I bought a car a long while back and the back seat looked like the last guy hauled greasy engine blocks on it. I didn't have any kind of upholstery cleaner in the house so I used Spray-n-Wash and a scrub brush. It looked like new when I was done. I'm sure it would work just as well on carpet.

shaving cream. That cheap unscented foamy stuff. Works better than anything I've used. Also excellent on the carpet in your house. Just like the carpet cleaners you buy..."always try in a place that doesn't show to test how colorfast the carpet is" Never had a problem with that, wife has home daycare so we do get some difficult stains.

Never would have thought of that! Thanks for posting it!!! I'll give it a try. My brother is rebuilding his Harley motor in my dining room.

Definately try Simple Green. I used it on my winter beater and it made the carpet look like new. I suppose it may not work on all stains though, but it worked great for me. My brother just bought a Camaro with grey interior, so I will post some before and after pics when I clean it.
