replacement carpet
I'm planning on replacing the carpet in my 89'iroc. What is the best brand? I would like it to have the same 3 wear pads as the original, dead pedal, heel pad and to the right of the gas pedal. Also where would I get it? Online vendors would be preferred.

I too am about to order new carpet, and would like any suggestions or ideas.
Also, has any ordered the new door panels from hawks? I was considering ordering.

ACC is an excellent company to deal with. better then my stock replacement. i believe you can get it through jc whitney and save even more money rather then ordering direct like i did.
here is what it looked like when it was new..

that worked well....
this is what it looked like right out of the box. you are suppose to let it sit in the sun so that it becomes flatter. i just used a heat gun on some areas and it went it very well. had to open up the shifter area slightly and shave some off the sides by the doors. beyond that it went very well.

ACC
Here's another vote for ACC, i just helped a friend put some in his 89 GTA. It's really high quality and fit perfect. The only thing is make sure it's warm out when you do it, or else have a hair dryer or heat gun, otherwise it's real tough to work with when cold.

I ordered my carpet from A1 auto on ebay. It was the best deal I could find $129.95. It was ACC carpet and they even sent me samples so I could get the color right. I went in very well even though I did it in the winter and it was cold in my garage. Taking everything out of the car and getting it back in was the hardest part. Overall I am very happy with the process and the result.

Gotta say that ACC has had an OEM mold fit for me. It's true what some others have said about slightly opening up the shifter area & also trimming the edges by the doors, but the mold itself was dead on for my car. And what fun would it be without some bumps along the way with putting it in.
But that's just me

I second 1aauto.com thats where my carpet came form. They had it on ebay for I think I payed like 200 for it, if you go straight through their site its like 250 or so. They also sell matching trim carpet and floor mats. It is ACC carpet.
It has the factory style jute padding glued to the carpet also.

GRRR- LOL
I'm trying to remove as much weight as possible, while keeping the factory look. Obviously the padding doesn't weigh too much, but I'd like to get it without the padding underneath.

I didn't check it on a scale but the ACC carpet with padding was lighter than the stock carpet. I would guess about 5 lbs. I have not run the car yet, so it might be louder.

What about all the horror stories with ACC carpet? I've heard it fits good, but fades quickly. I touched on the subject a while back...
Here was what I found:

I bought their carpet when I switched my interior from camel tan to black about a year ago. So far the carpet has not faded the least bit. In fact, I've already been through 3 sets of black floor mats b/c they fade so quickly and look grey compared to the carpet.

Mine is still good after almost a year of it being in my car, I had it for almost 8mo before I installed it. Is it possible that the people that has had bad luck with it used something harsh to clean it with, or had t-top leaks or something. But my car is parked in the sun most of the time here in GA, and its yet to fade.

3 years, maybe 10k miles and car stored in the shade. Time to replace my horribly faded ACC carpet.

iv heard MANY complaints about ACC carpet on the mailing list.
one of my friends orderd some of the car motorsports stuff and it was pretty well built stuff. a bit more spendy but iv heard more positive stuff about it than i have about ACC.
the car motorsports stuff laid in good and was molded about as close as you could get.

Not thirdgen related but I ordered ACC carpet for my 67 Mustang (which was a nylon loop carpet, very diff than our carpet) and it faded like no ones business over 2 years time. The black turned to a tan/purple color in places.
From what I gathered from the message board I was on at the time, this was typical of any classic mustang replacement carpet so it may not be just ACC but the design of the carpet. After I bought my carpet, they came out with a molded carpet with the new soft style which is what I really wanted. The crap that came factory felt like berber carpet.
BUT I do have a brand new set of ACC black carpet sitting in my spare bedroom waiting to be installed so I'll post back when I get it installed. For now, it's a playground for my sugar gliders...

My 89 T/A had ACC carpet in when I bought it, its green and faded. its freakin horrible. I have personally seen three different cars that this has happened to. Is there anyone else that makes carpet for our cars? I really don't want to give this ****ty company money for carpet thats gonna fade. its ****ing ridiculous. there is no excuse for it.

I ordered from ACC for my '90 RS... The first time I installed it I ended up with a bunch of wrinkles... Last week in my upholstery class I re-installed it but I removed the padding which came with it and it fit perfectly!
