Gutting my interior- questions!

So I took the whole interior out to remove the sound padding today-

1.) what can i use to remove the excess glue/padding that remains on the floor.

2.) Do aftermarket companies attach sound deadener to the new carpet?

3.) Is there a rear seat delete, or is there a way to clean up the back when rear seats are removed?

Thanks!

1. Try a razor or some adhesive remover

2. In my experience, no. But I have only changed a couple carpets out ever.

3. I've seen on some 4th gens and mustangs where the owners will fabricate a carpeted storage center to go back there, with doors and shelves and stuff. Not really my style, but it looked clean.

1. Not sure, why not just leave it there if your putting new carpet over it.

2. My ACC carpet had some deadener on it but i opted to leave the stock in also.

3. I would just remove the rear seat bracket and not cut the hole for it in the carpet.

I would remove all the old padding unless it is COMPLETLEY DRY and mold/mildew STINK free. Your car may have a old / musty smell if you dont remove or replace it all, even the piece under the radio. A drill with a large wire wheel works good to remove most of the glued padding. This is also a good time to check the seams and corners for rust holes. Chances are you might find a small rust hole or two that needs fixing before you put your nice new carpet in. I would also give your car the high pressure garden hose test to find any t-top or window leaks that might get in as well.

When i was removing the carpeting, the padding was moist and smelt like hell. Im just going to throw a new carpet in w/o the padding.

As for the seams, its hard to believe, but this car is almost perfect in terms of rust around the problem areas and seams. I've never seen a car's body in such good condition.

Thanks for the heads up with the water test- didnt think about that-

Problem is our stock carpet is vinal backed, so the first time any water gets in the pad it never leaves. rusting your car from the inside out and it can get smelly.

Trust me. I had a great looking car from the under side. Until I started removing the carpet and pulling the pad.

It then turned into a week or so of welding and fixing. You may not see much but once you take a wire wheel to the floor. the dots of surface rust turn into pin holes.

Sounds like fun, now you need new floor mats, or make everyone take their shoes off before getting into your car.
