custom LS1 console

ive dyed it to install in my 3rd gen. i used the factory convertible switch plate to house my electric hatch pop. the boot and the accessory plug are still drying.

i couldnt bare to put a "graphite" or "ebony" console in the car.... just didnt match. i figured id try something different and it almost matches like factory.

i used "duplicolor vinal color" "VS 3 flat black" ive experimented with the gloss and the satin. i must say that it makes it look cheap and out of place.

the flat sill has a sheen to it, im guessing its the texture reflecting off itself.

other flat blacks were way to glossy too.... id stick with the dupicolor if i were gonna do it.

Looks good!

I've never seen dye in any local store. Did you have to order it, or were you able to get it locally?

its in a spray. its not a paint, its a "color" the dang stuff melts into the plastic like mad.

the nozzle is really sensitive and i made a run on the ashtray lid. wiped it off immediatley with wax/grease remmover... stuff didnt want to come off. it already started burning its way into the plastic. had to sand it out. dyes insanly fast.

Isn't Ebony black, or at least very close to it?

Not close enough for him...you should see the rest of his car

That looks realy good TJ, I think I might have to do that as well after seeing it in person this weekend. Can't wait to see the car again

Looks awesome.

Right on stage, it looks pretty slick. Hopefully you won't have any chipping or flaking problems from regular use

I went the same route. Black out all the way. However, I left the shift boot and handle grey to accent the dash.

i have an automatic one for sale if you should need a console. got some scratches, but its not in the worse shape.

67camaro88- thanks bud, its looking bling, it may be in the car by the time you get here. had to order a cap for my accessory port. the one i have has a plug and its gay. BTW, i padded the passenger side pretty heavy...... no eye sore of a gap on the cupholder anymore.

3.1eyecandy- that is a nice idea leaving it to accent the dash and such, i bet the color mix up looks good in a firebird.

the power mirror idea you have is one i havent seen. looks awesome! :hail:

stage20- I want to change my entire interior from tan to black. I got some black panels already, but it's hard to find them in very good to mint condition. My tan set is as close to flawless as you can hope for... do you think that duplicolor spray dye is good enough to use on an entire interior? Including areas like the door sill where there is a greater chance of contact and abuse? your console looks great!

thanks for the compliments. i was reffered this particular product by a friend in the paint business. said it was one of the better colorants out there. just make sure you get the flat. satin and gloss looks like @$$ for interior panels. the sill plates would get some wear, but the grey, tan and red interiors WERE black, and GM dyed them. if you have ever seen a car thats been beat on, the black always shows threw. (from what ive seen) it will come off in high traffic areas im sure. give it a shot, at worst, its just 4 screws and you can take it off and re spray it.

good luck.
