taking out the back seat

i was just wondering if any of yall have ever taken out your back seat, does it make much fo a difference as far as the weight of the car, and what goes into actually taking it out, is it a difficult process or something i can do in about 30 min to an hour? i have the split rear seats if it matters, thanx

i took my backseat out tuesday. there are 4 13mm bolts you need to remove, one under each seat and one on each side of the vertical part where it rotates up and down. remove the bottom seats first then you can get to the other bolts. the back of the seats are just velcrowed in so gently tug them out.it took me about 15 minutes tops. mine was the solid seat design so i would guess that the split design would be the same, someone else chime in on that.

hope that helps,
Brandon

Like he said. Really easy to do. I think the only way you'd benefit from it is if you took everything out.

Since yours is an 89 and you have shoulder belts it will take a little longer. You must remove the shoulder belt guides secured to the back of the seat with i beleive three torx screws on each side. I think the heads are t-25 or so, i may be wrong there. Also the split seat back will just slip out of the mount that is on the trans tunnel, it may be tight but just pull.

like they said.. easy

but if you're doing this at the strip, the passenger seat weights more.... its only four 13mm nuts..... use a ratchet and its a 2min job.

well with a vert it is anyway... coupes have the seatbelt thru the hoop on the seat... i donno how hard it is to get that off... probly just one or two screws...

the torx screws on the back have loctite on them, at least mine did, so make sure you aren't using a screwdriver to try to get them out get a ratchet set for them

Like He said above. there is locktight or something on the end of the bolts. I helped my friend put a system in his '89 RS and we went through hell getting getting those bolts out to remove the seat.

and now to answer your second question, the back seats weight at the most 15-20 pounds. thats counting all four parts(3 in my case) As mr dude stated, your passenger seat weights more. How much i dunno, but all this gets you out of lugging unnecessary people around
