Car Show coming up soon, prepare me...
Alrighty guys, there is a car show here Sept 11th 2004.
http://www.carcouncil.org/2004show.htm
I am hoping to score high in this competition, in order todo this i need to listen to somehting besides my own ideas cause my look aint coming together just right. My goal in this thread is to take everyone's advice on what todo to the interior. Here are my plans as of now,
- Recover door panels, headliner in neoprene and take off fur door handles.
- Hawks Seat Covers(to be ordered next week)
- Refine the silver interior peices(make a little less of)
- 4th Gen Console (97+)
- New 1A Carpet(that black die was temporary until i could afford this)
- Billet Aluminum Pedals
Now is your turn, while trying to keep the budget down tlel me what needs to be done. My restrictions are, no 4th gen dash, i love my dash, no 4th gen seats(theas i am getting racing seats soon enough), and no new steering wheel(i found out mine that i thought was a cheapo one my step-dad ordered from summit, its actually a Grant wheel)

Thanks,
Shane

option A - back to stock, no seat covers or anything. armor all clean. i personally love the dinner table stock dash over the 4th gen dash.
option B - Give money to a hot girl to sit in your car in a skimpy 2 piece.

dude...one reccomendation is to get new window switches...i think them being painted white looks a bit tacky....and next I would get rid of the "fur" look, unless you have a gun rack to put in the hatch area...repaint the gauge rings or get chrome ones....get a black shift boot....black seatbelts...ditch the dash pouch....repaint the door handle/door lock panel that is on the door black....relocate the cd changer remote somewhere less noticable...
thats really about it....not much else you can do unless you are wanting to fiberglass up something wild and ricy...
personally I would go back to stock as much as possible...steeringwheel and race pedals are good accents...so is the chrome/painted gauge rings...but really other than that...i dont know what to tell you....
Autovaition has nice pedals for around 60$ i have them on my RS and they look awesome i think...and are very easy to install...
if you make it as clean as possible...it will grab judge's attention and gain you extra points as 3rd gens usually loose out due to cleanliness factor with our interiors....

If you dont do the 4th gen console find a way to tie in the aluminum to the dash, like bezels around the guages. The 4th gen console would be better though. Keep it as simple as possible, dont do little flashy things other wise it wont look right.
I love that logo you have for river city f-bodies. :-)
I designed that for you guys!! Bruce told me that he was gonna look into the pricing on the jacket he has. I should contact him some time.

*kicks you in the ******
just preparing you for what its going to feel like when judges come up and look at your car and find every little imperfection with it. I couldnt handle entering my car in a show yet because the car doesnt look the way i want it too and i personally see too many things wrong with it. But props for being willing to show it off, just do a good job detailing it before you go and best of luck to ya.

Alrighty guys, here are my plans for the interior in detail,
- Recover door panels, headliner in neoprene and take off fur door handles.
- Hawks Seat Covers(to be ordered next week)
- Refine the silver interior peices, chrome the guage rings since everyone seems to like that idea i did. Sand down the Plastic Door Panels, and goto a nice dark color(cant decide yet but it needs to be dark, but also contrast with the black panel, ya know), neoprene Shifter Boot, or make my own with my left over vinyl. Custom paing scheme on radio face plate will be done, heres a quick drawing of it below
- 4th Gen Console (97+), pretty straight forward.
- New 1A Carpet(that black die was temporary until i could afford this), since in some areas the carpet is lighter then others, new carpet is a must for a show.
- Billet Aluminum Pedals, autovationm i like theirs, but thats gay more expensive for the cool finish, than it is for polished, whata rip off there.
al i can think of at the moment.
ANd yeha my car isn't that bad guys, it is show car worthy, its just got parts you guys find unappealing.

your doing things that aren't even going to matter. judges notice very few things and cleanliness is one of them.....fur and other tacky things while still can be clean will just make people look the other way.
i think you should go back to as close to stock with what you have and work back up....steam clean the hell out of everything and stop worrying about cheasy paint and bolt on pedals as no one will notice it to make it worth your effort.

Biggest tip I can give you is don't go in thinking you will win something. Every show I'm positive I am the best in my class I don't win chit. Every show where I think I don't have a chance in hell of winning, I've won.
Secondly, make friends with the judges. Almost all shows have bias. If they are run by a local club, you can be almost certain their members are winning the majority of the awards.
Third, Always remember Redraifs car wins trophies. Based on that you could do your entire car in fur and might be able to win. It sure wouldn't look worse.

Some of your guys have to read the list of what he plans ot change before you post! Most've you said to do things already on his list. Shane, I think you have a good plan there. I've never entered a car show, but the things you mentioned sound like it'll look better to me. I have one idea that you may or may not go along with. If you're redoing your door panels, would you consider changing the trim piece around the handle? I think this style (pic below) looks much sleeker than the big rectangular kind. It will however require you to get a new backing board. How's your engine compartment looking? you'll probably want to clean that up really well. It's too bad you don't have new rims yet, but you can try cleaning up what you have if needed. And as stated above, don't go in expecting great praise or you'll probably be let down. I'm willing to bet the judges are really picky and are used to seeing some amazing cars.
do whatever you want to your car that makes you happy, judges can tell when its a labor of love or someone is just trying to hard. best point is to do what you feel makes your car your way and have fun with it.........if you stop having fun because your worried about winning then all is lost.

When you get done with your list you will have a nice car, like said above the judges like it clean and simple, and the interior must match the exterior in lines etc. I would be careful with the neopren you can over do it, but just make sure everything matches and that you don't have 20 shades of black, and 20 shades of grey etc. Also make sure you have all the screws and clips and covers etc on the interior, a few visibly missing screws can kill you in a show.
I've put my car in one show, it was a fundraiser and I won to my surprise ... but hey it was all good fun, that was when my paint was new and my interior was 100% stock. One plus my engine bay although not crome or anthing is extreamly clean, and the car is well taken care of all over.
