How do you clean your old, nasty, dirty seatbelts properly?

Mine used to be red. At this point, they're somewhere in between red and black because of the dirt over the years.

Anybody know a really effective way of cleaning these?

OR, is there someplace you can take old seatbelts and have them taken apart and they'll put new belts on the old buckles/mechanisms?

They're really embarassing lol

Try soaking them in simple green and rinsing well.

Remove em

Degrease em

Powerwash em with a hot water washer

Let em dry

And re-install them.

I did this on a set of gray belts and they came out mint.

I just gutted my interior to replace the carpet and clean up everything from the previous owners. Everything is out except the headliners. Now this may sound like a stupid question, but, how hard is it to get the seatbelts out? And can you take the seatbelts out without taking off the headliner? Thanks

You can get all but the driver and passenger should belts out without removing the headliner. The retrators sit above the headliner.

You will need a T-50 Torx bit to remove the seatbelts.
