removing tint on defrost hatch
i have a friend who bought her camaro with a hack tint job that's peeling on her back hatch. she said she took it to a number of places in town, but they all said that they wouldn't remove tint on windows with defrost because it messes it up.
so, what should i tell her to do? is it ok just pulling it off?

I was told that if you want the tint removed/replaced and you want it to look good, the defrost lines will most likely have to go.
The reason for this is because the glue and residue that stays on the window after the film is removed needs to be scraped off right? Well unless you plan on being ever so careful and using an exacto knife to cut along the lines, you're most likely just going to scrape it off and take the lines with the glue.....depending on how old the tint is, they MAY be able to use chemicals to dissolve it enough, but dont bet on it (my old tint was 7 years old and they took my defrost lines off)

well i read in some other posts about some solutions to take off the residue left from taking tint off...just not sure if pulling the tint off will pull the defrost lines off..

I tried a heat gun on my side widows.Barely made a dent (so to speak).Brake cleaner & a x-actxo blade works real good on disolving the tint residue.Dont know about the defroster lines though.

I took mine off with not many problems at all. I used Lacquer Thinner, Water, a Razor Blade, and some Fine Steel Wool....looks great...dosen't mess the defrost up or anything.
