That is (or was) your rear impact bar. I wouldn't go getting rear-ended with that thing.

Yup, that's what it is. You can usually find them at bone yards for fairly cheap. Since your car is a 91, you may have to get one speciffically from another 91-92. I know that the front impact beam is different on the firebirds for those years, just not sure about the rear.
If you can't find one at the bone yards, then any body shop would be able to get you one. I bought a new front impact beam from a private seller for around $30 shipped, so I think you might be able to get the rear for close to the same.
Let me see if I can still find the page....

http://webpages.charter.net/van.parys/cars.html

Click on 82-92 3rd gen parts, and then...

Looks like the 7th one is what you may need. Email him with your specifics, and he may be able to help you out.

Good Luck

From what I've seen, its VERY common, good place for salt and crap to clog up and stay!
I bought one from a guy on the classified on this board, paid 40 shipped,I believe
i see them on E-Bay at times,if you cant find locally
Watch shipping charges tho!
Later

Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
You'll have to remove the cover, it's not overly difficult. Remove the taillights and there will be six or seven plastic pushpins to remove, similar to the ones on the bottom; and three nuts on each side down in the wells behind the rear wheels.
The metal piece of the brace should be somewhat universal among thirdgen Camaro's; you should be able to swap the plastic 'eggcrate' onto a replacement piece.

Yeah i had to replace mine too. Take off your tail lights, take off your bumper skin, then there will be this Honey-comb type looking thing that runs between your impact bar and your bumper skin. Its harder replacing the impact bar then the other guys lead on to..... If yours is that rusted, like mine, yourll probably end up hack sawing off the bolts because they just continue to spin, very easy way to do it. Your gona have to have someone hold the impact bar while you bolt the new one on. Just becareful not to cut yourself when removing the old one.
