Im Back Guys, Bad Luck Though!

FINALLY got my computer fixed!....... i swear if it wasnt for bad luck i wouldnt have any luck at all. those who remember me know i was running ZR1 17x9.5's and was planning on getting a sunset orange paint job. well after spending $1,600 on a fresh new paint job, about a week later this happened. i was going down the road and my front driver side wheel adaptor stripped out. as i slowed, my wheel, tire, and adaptor kept going and i was rolling on the rotor. as soon as i got out, i saw my front fender and it was beat to hell. so yeah, after all this long build up ive been doing, something like this has to happen! go figure! so no more running 4th gen wheels for me. i guess ill just look into buying a set of torque thrust II's for my car so they will be a direct bolt on. if you have a set let me know.

Adapters have to be checked constantly when you first put them on. If you decide to stay with the ZR1s, be sure to retorque everything after the first drive, and check them again in a week. There have been horror stories like this before, but it's usually from lack of maintenance. I would check them after a month of driving and probably every 6 months after that. Can't be too safe.

Pictures?

I checked the CarDomain page and they'res no recent pics. What exactly happened with the adapters? You said they "stripped out". Did the steel threaded stud come out of the aluminum adapter???

There's a zillion people on here with adapters (including myself). We'd like to know what caused the problem so we don't have the same problem.

the wheel studs are part of the rotors so unless the studs broke off how did your wheel fall off

where the lugs go onto the studs on the adaptors. those holes in the adaptors, the lugs just stripped the holes bigger and eventually wiggled their way out. and yes i DID have the steel rings on the adaptors, but it still happened.

So your saying all five holes on the adapter failed, and the lug nuts went through? Where did you get these adapters from? What steel rings are you talking about? What did you torque the lug nuts to? Can you post pics of the failed adapter? I'm not trying to question your mechanical skills, I (and many others) are just very interested in this subject.
