i would say definitely the Camaro 145 speedo...pretty spiffy, but i still would rather see a newer Firebird gauge set swapped in because it looks a LOT cleaner and matches the whole Pontiac theme...but this is different, and a lot easier, lol...

Well the dude that previously owned mine removed the plastic "lenses" covering the gauges. Now seeing as I am a newbie here, it is one piece all across or are they separate for each cutout? I'm thinking that if I can't find an original ingood condition that I could fabricate my own from pieces out of any flat gauge cover? What do you guys think?

well, IIRC, the lenses are all one big piece...they have special holes to put screws through and to slide onto pegs molded into the gauge cluster...so a flat piece wouldnt fit right...you should be able to get one at any local JY for a little bit of nothing...

Perhaps, but this requires zero rewiring/headaches!

I hope to get there this weekend....
I'd probably have better luck with one from a donor than making my own anyways....
Thanks for the info, and special thanks to deadbird for the pics....

This is a great trick for owners of early Firebirds (like me). All the early cars had mechanical speedos. GM only made 85mph mechanical speedos for Firebirds. It wasn't until they switched to electronic speedos that the 140mph units were available. But Camaros had 140mph mechanical speedos. I never thought a Camaro speedo would fit in the Firebird cluster like that. I assume the tach will fit as well?

Has anyone on here done this, and is is a straightforward swap? I'd probably swap the tach too as I still have a V6 tach in my cluster.

Question:
Can you swap the needle from the Firebird speedo to the Camaro speedo? I think it would help in attempting to unify the dash after the conversion.
