GM replacement parts paint/prep work???
Hey guys im goin to be gettin an entire set of 91-92 z28 gfx and the nose, lower chin spoiler where replaced with new factory pieces from GM and well i guess the body shop that painted it all didnt do a good job and its flaking off in the head light pockets and few other spots. im not that concerned since it all has to be stripped.
but what has to be done with the new parts in order for the paintot stick good? like would a epoxy primer be good or would i have to put a sealer on it and then epoxy primer and this would be after sandin everypart with 180 grit paper.

use a good self etching primer such as etchlock made by sherwin willams over the bare plastic thast should create all the adhesion you need

Once down to bare plastic, the FIRST step is to use Plastic Adhesion Promoter. Also note that some plastics will asorb solvents, so do not degrease with solvent based cleaner. Use a water based/alcohol cleaner instead.
Then follow up with the epoxy primer, but to remain flexible, you MUST follow the tech sheets!

All the stuff i have for paintin and priming are PPG supplies. i think ill have to take a look in my PPG book to see what adhesion promotors they suggests in there.
i dont think id use anyting from sherwin williams from the stories ive heard about there stuff and how there just like another macco.
but i do have a good self etching primer from PPG that worked good so far. but ill still end up gettin a good epoxy primer probably black so when and if my gfx get scratched it wont be that noticeable.

Hey GM Tech, have you tried PPG's new line of base coat "Envirobase" yet? I too am a PPG certified paint tech and the shop that I work at uses Envirobase. And let me tell ya it was one h**l of a change going from DBC to Envirobase. But for the most part I think I like Envriobase better than DBC, it seems faster.
