Well it's about time. That key has survived a lot, and it is now officially stuck inside the lock cylinder. Where did everyone get their lock cylinders, and did you buy a whole set (doors, t-tops, hatch) or just a replacement? Is it possible to get a replacement for the same key with my spare?

If you're not looking for BRAND NEW lock cylinders/keys, then I'd try a local junkyard.
You'd probably get an entire set for around $10.00.

On my GTA, only 1 lock cylinder on the entire car worked (drivers door). The passenger side is jammed - key only goes halfway in... the hatch was corroded solid.
I got all new lock cylinders from GM (I couldn't find any aftermarket places around here that could get me a hatch lock cylinder - they all told me either it was a special order part, or you could only get them from the dealership). All 3 cost me around $80 Canadian (after taxes). It cost me $11 each for a lock smith to assemble and key the locks. If you got 1 key he will use the existing code.

You said you've got a spare key? Yeah, have one cut... why not... see if it works or not. Or, bring it to GM and have them determine the key code. (The key's teeth actually lines up along a grid, and that's how GM can re-cut a key without you giving them a key - in theory, anyway.
) If you've got the GM Service Manual, the grid is in the back of the book, in the body service section.

All you have to do is bring it to a competent locksmith and they can remove the key from the cylinder. I had the same thing happen in our 1991 GMC Jimmy

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I think I'll order a new set from GM. I'd like to have new GM keys for one, and the lock cylinders on both doors are going bad as well.
The best part is, I can still use the half key I have to lock and unlock the door.

LOL! Ya know you can actually disassemble the lock once you remove it from the door; when I bought my car, the little black "cap" over the key slot was broken. Brought it in to a GM dealer, intending to buy a set of locks, but the guy actually sold me a new cap AND put it on for me. Only cost $5! Too bad that place went out of business
