sand with 400, then with sand with 600, hell even 1000 if you want but if you have big chips or scufs then youd gonna have to start with a lower grit.

then buy a ratttle can of primer and spray away..

How are the GFx now? Did you buy them used, or new? Are they painted? E-coat?
If painted, what kind of shape is the paint in?
If painted, In good shape, or in E-coat, sand with 400 dry, seal and shoot.
ABSOLUTELY NO RATTLECAN!!!! Definitely use flex... Some will disagree... but use it, You'll thank me later.

wayyyy too harsh man, use 220, thats as rough as you can possibly get w/o ****ing up the plastic. it takes a bit of time, but its not that bad, and actually now that i think about it, i wetsanded mine with 220.

I don’t know about you, but when I did mine, I didn’t have the money to do a pro paint job. So I used Krylon “Fusion” paint. It’s made for painting plastic (all your gfx + both front & rear bumpers are a urethane plastic), no primer needed. My car is Chevy Artic White, so I used the white & then used Duplo auto paint (auto stores or Wal-Mart has it) in a spray can.
90% of doing a great paint job is prep work. So take your time.
If you do decide to use the rattle can method above, I highly recommend painting the parts & giving them the 7 days cure time. Fusion paint needs 7 days to become scratch resistant.

VERY, very true.
What color will you be painting.? amy metallics will lay in a 220 grit scratch. way to coarse.
Wetsand with 220 as mentioned above will be ok but not optimal.
No, do not remove old paint completely. you're asking for way more than you want to get into if you do that.
All you need is a tooth for the new finish to stick.

84 to 90-92 GFX

I have been reading/searching the threads here trying to figure out about changing out my 84 GFX to 90-92 GFX parts. So far I understand that they will all fit, but I will have to do the complete front, along with door pieces and rockers for them to match...Am I correct in my assumptions so far or should I stick with earlier parts?
Thanx, Cocacolakidd

you have to change the complete thing gront rockers door piece and rear bumper and the quarter panel pieces.. the front nose is a little different as well I believe, and think you have to drill a few holes to mount the newer gfx

as for prep any grit between 220-400 is perfect you want to be able to sand it enough so the paint has something to adhear to but not so gritty that you can see the sanding through the paint.

As far as mounting the front bumper cover by drilling some holes, that's fine, and sounds easy so far...I also understand about the 200-400 Grit sand paper. I will just take extra time because there are two different colors of paint on it. The top color is red, which I want to eliminate completly....then it should be fine. Thanks, Ed.
