1st step done of reupholstering project

I figured i'd post how much i have done of my reupholstering project. I started on it about a month ago, but just haven't had time to work with it. The pic is of the driver's seat bottom. Everything has been done by me. I used the old bottom as a pattern for the new one. It does need readjusted though to get out some of the wrinkles and to straighten it. Just wanted to show you what it is gonna look like. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful. I thought this was a big step up from the way it used to look.

Yea it's hard as heck to do to. It takes lots and lots and lots of time and patience. I think i'll have the rest of that seat done by the end of this weekend. I'll post pics of it when i'm done.

It's vinyl. I'm way too poor to afford leather. I'm just a college kid. College=poverty. Any comments or suggestions on what to change or do is of great help. O and the guy i bought it off of left it in his garage for like 2 years. He let his dog live in the car for a few months too. So i'm pretty sure it was from that. Or it was from the tons of dead mice i found under the back seats, in the dash, in the engine bay. They were everywhere. There's nothing left on the inside and i'm finally just getting rid of the smell. It was awful. Any more comments or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Mainly i took apart the old seats as much as possible. But before that i labeled every piece and took pictures of it from every angle so i would remember how it goes back together. Then I got a seam ripper and just started taking apart it piece by piece. The seats or only comprised of a dozen or so pieces for each the top and the bottom. I then took those pieces and used them as patterns to cut out new ones. Put new foam on the back where it was needed and sew it backe together. I had to cut the pieces slightly larger for the areas that were going to get those lines stitched through them like that main center piece. So that when it was stitched it wouldn't become too small. Also i had to make sure everything was almost perfect so it wouldn't sag or look like a seat cover like a pull over thingie. Then once it was all sewn I had to slip it back on. Then came the part that is exhausting, i had to hog ring it to the bottom. Sounds simple right? wrong! You have to pull and tug to make everything sit right and be snug. In the pics it has an area that has some wrinkles. I had to go back and repull that and hog ring it down. I suggest using two people for that part. No experience prior. It just takes lots and lots of time and effort and patience especially if you don't exactly know what you are doing. I wouldn't suggest trying it unless you have tons and tons of free time.

well, if that college thing doesn't work for ya, i bet u can find a job as an upholsterer. u seem to be a natural is the top portion of the seat going to be harder? it seems like it would be.

Yea the top will be a little bit harder since i have to get all the lines to well line up. Other than that it won't be too bad.
