Overhead console differences by year

I've been thinking of putting in an upper console in my TA but I was wondering if there were any differences between the early 3rd gens to the later year 3rd gens. From what I have read on this site they were an option in '84 and I think I read a post that said they came out in '83. I just wanted to know what differences there are between say an '84 to like an '89+. Other than T-Top/non T-Top...I know the non is wider and curved. Since mine is an '82 I'd kind of like to keep it to the earlier style (83-84) if there is in fact a difference at all. I see them on Ebay all the time but they are usually for later 3rd gens. I tried to get the flashlight on there today but lost the bid! Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that there are any differences. I have a collection of 11 of so..and from what I remember, there are no differences.

Well...I take that back...the only difference I can see is the stiching on the pouch...some stiching is orange...while others are black...I don't know if this is a difference between ttop/nonttop or camaro/firebird or early/late...

Sorry, all I have left are Camaro flashlights.

there are differences between the t-top and the hardtop models, hardtop models have a curved back to go w/ the contour of the roof. T-top models will have a flat back which goes on the straight t-top roofs.

As far as different for model year, don't think so. My 1985 original has black stiching on the pouch, and one that came out of a later model car, doesn't even have the pouch anymore, so no clue.

thanks for the info. I didn't know that '87 was the last year for the upper console. On Ebay I looked at one that said it was from an '88 IROC. Hey 4mul8r, are you willing to part with any of your upper consoles?

Well, I don't know if anyones interested but I have a beautiful overhead console with flashlight, etc. It the flat kind (used in a T-Top vehicle). I'm looking to sell it or trade it for a curved one in like condition.

Yes, they appear to be the same.. I have an 87 camaro, but the flashlight says "FIREBIRD" on it, when you take it out.. It fits correctly, though.. so other than that, they are more than likely the same.

The flashlights are identical except for the name that appears on the flashlights.

As of right now...I don't think I am going to part a console out at this time....might be a possibility in the future.
