stupid SS hood question

hey all I have a stupid SS hood question. I just got the car back from the painter and he could not attach the little grill on the hood. I looked at it and I am kind of clueless.

here is my take on how I am going to attach the grill.

I am going to place the grill on the outside of the hole (lined up) and I am going to drill two spots on the fiberglass that sits behind the hole. add two black screws and I am golden.

a friend said I should put the grill "inside" the hole with some spacers so it is flush with the hole and not touching the flberglass behind the hole and add two screws just like stated above.

I have never seen a SS hood on a third gen in person till I got mine so I am clueless as how it goes.....thanks....

make sure the grill sits flush with the hood. you dont want it to look weird. what i did was got hex bolts and drilled a hole first then put the hex bolt in and put an nut at the end and there it is. also if the grill is hard to put in then you may have to shave the hole so it can fit the grill

not sure what's wrong with your grill/hood man....the grill should just pop in...with no problems at all. The grill is made to push in...with a little force.

DO NOT USE SCREWS.
gay.

if it dont pop in, you may have to trim some fiberglass off the hood. look on the grill, should be 2 clips on top, and 2 on bottom.
or 4 on top if you flip it..... hehe

Do use screws, the last thing you want is to loose the grill. Just use black anodized or painted ones so they don't stand out.

And you might need to trim the hole a little to get it to sit all the way in.

please dont use screws. ifyou bought the hood new, its not your problem. it is supposed to fit. take it up with ASCD.

stage20, just because it is supposed to fit doesnt mean it won't come off if he hits a big bump while cruising. I've seen the insert put in with black screws, and you cant even see them unless the owner shows you they are there.

Biker, you can decide how you want to handle this yourself, my suggestion is that you use some sort of perminant attachment so you don't loose the insert.

I had to use a body file and shave the opening on mine to get a good fit. Then I just put a couple small dabs of trim adhesive on it. So it wouldnt come off. But not so much that i cant remove it if i decide to change it.
